Chapter Nine

Halo glanced at Aurora as the group worked their way through the forest. Aurora sighed, "Guys, stop. Please..." The others turned, facing Aurora awaiting what she had to say, "I know you all are wondering what happened..." Aurora paused, looking around at the group. The others nodded, sitting down as snow started to fall, "Well, when we were going down the mountain I saw one of the ghost wolves. I tried to tell you guys but before I could I was grabbed or something. I must have fainted because when I woke up I was in the hollow with the wolves surrounding me. They asked me questions for what seemed like hours. I couldn't tell because it was nearly dark when I woke up, but then again it was like that all the time. Soon after that you guys came, and well you know the rest." Slate nodded, "Well, at least they didn't hurt you." Halo and Rosa nodded. The group stood up and started walking through the forest again as the ground quickly turned white. Halo shook herself, flinging the snow off her back. Slate shook himself as well turning to the others, "We should find a place to rest for tonight, it seems like this snow is just getting heavier." Rosa nodded, "Sounds like a good plan to me." Slate took the lead as Halo brought up the back, the entire group looking for a place to sleep for the night. Rosa soon spotted a small cave to the left of them, "Guys! I found a cave!" Rosa yelled over the howling wind. Slate narrowed his eyes and spotted the cave as well, "Nice job Rosa!" the group turned left, leaping through the snow to get into the cave. Slate huffed, "We have to dig! The entrance is to small for us to fit!" Slate barked, his words being carried away by the raging snow and winds. Halo and Rosa quickly went to work, throwing paw fulls of snow away from the entrance. A few moments later the entrance was just big enough for them all to slip in. Once inside the cave they shook snow from their pelts, "That was almost bad." Rosa sighed, causing the others to nod, "Well, we had better sleep. It doesn't look like this storm is going anywhere soon." Slate said, laying down in the center of the small cave. The others settled down beside him and soon fell asleep. Halo was the first to wake, walking over to the caves entrance she started to dig away the snow that had piled up at the entrance, blocking it off completely. Once the entrance was cleared enough so Halo could slip through she exited the cave, the storm had stopped but the ground was covered in deep snow that would slow them down. Halo flicked an ear back hearing rustling behind her, "Looks like the storm stopped." Slate said, walking up beside Halo. Halo nodded, "We should get going. The snow will slow us down." Slate sighed, "Yeah, I suppose we should." Halo turned, heading back into the cave to get Aurora and Rosa. Halo nudged Rosa, "Rosa, time to get up." Rosa lifted her head and yawned, "Okay..." Rosa stood shaking herself off. Halo nudged Aurora, "Aurora, time to get up." Aurora grumbled, "Tired..." Halo sighed, "Aurora, get up or ill pile snow on you." Auroras eye's snapped open, "I'm up!" Halo rolled her eyes, "Okay everyone, let's go." Slate called from outside the cave as Aurora, Halo, and Rosa exited the cave. Rosa looked around, "This snow looks really deep..." Slate nodded, "It is." Aurora looked over the landscape with wide eyes, "That's a lot of snow..." she muttered. Rosa nodded, "It is." Slate sighed, "Yeah, and that's exactly why we are leaving now. We are already at least two days behind. We need to get moving." the others nodded as Slate took the lead, they still had a long way to go and a short time to get there.
