Chapter 3

I got to school with no lingering thoughts of my mother as my hard face appeared and didn't leave. I got out of my car walking to my locker, getting my book and then heading to English Lit. I took another route to the room just to make sure that I wouldn't cross paths with Lucas. When I got there, I sat down in my seat and was quiet until class started.

I was paying more attention in this class than I was yesterday but that didn't make Hamlet any less boring. The bell finally rang and I left the classroom going to my locker to get my things for Trig. I wasn't looking forward to seeing my quiz grade knowing that I didn't even get to some questions. When I walked in the classroom there were already so students there and they had their quizzes in front of there.

None of their faces appeared to be very pleased which just make me even less thrilled to see what I made. Deciding I couldn't postpone the inevitable anymore, I went up to Mr. Edwards desk and got my paper. Without looking at it, I went to my seat and sat down. Slowly looking at the last ones first, I saw that I got most of them right. I wasn't going to argue with an 87%.

Hmmm, maybe I know more that I think. I guess that I was one of the few who did satisfactory since Mr. Edwards exhausted the whole period on this quiz. We went over the whole thing while Mr. Edwards added his comments here and there about what we should have done and how our grades were disappointing. I rolled my eyes a little when he started scolding us.

He had to have thought that since the majority of the class didn't do well, he was at least a little bit responsible. He finished going over the quiz when there were fifteen minutes left of class and then said "I have decided that since we have done so poorly, to prepare for our next test, we will do a project."

There were collective groans throughout the room. I had to hold in one myself because I don't particularly like projects either. I zoned out when he was explaining what this project was going to be about until he said "... lucky for you this project is going to be in pairs." I jerked up even more dissatisfied with this project.

As he started naming off people I closed my eyes wishing that I didn't get someone stupid of annoying. "Annabelle and Caitlyn." I let out a sigh of relief. I had worked with Caitlyn many times before. In a way, she was my escape goat. She had had many of my classes in my high school years and we had been partners on more than a couple of occasions.

She was one of those people who had a bunch of friends, but not really a best friend per se. She could go into the cafeteria and sit with a different group if she really wanted to. But because of this, she was up to date on most of the school gossip and knew a lot about everyone which is why I tried to keep my personal life and business from our conversations.

Caitlyn looked around and spotted me before I could move , she made her way over to me. "Hi, Annabelle!" she said a little bit too enthusiastic. I gave her a small smile as she launched into what we should do for the project. Since I really wasn't paying attention, I couldn't add to the conversation so I pretty much ignored it. Mr. Edwards was passing out a rubric for it so I wasn't particularly worried. A few minutes before it was time to go, she took the conversation somewhere else.

"Did you know that Ethan's having a party this weekend?" I gave her uninterested look as she kept on talking completely ignoring my reaction. "It's going to start at seven and I heard it's going to be the party of the year. There will be a bunch of alcohol, dancing, and sexy boys!" she said almost jumping in her seat way too excited. "Did I mention boys?" she asked going into a land of I'm assuming her sexy boys. "Yeah, sounds fun," I said sarcastically.

She narrowed her eyes at me and said "It will be fun because you're coming with me." Before I could protest, the bell rang and everyone exited the classroom. I tried to catch up with her and tell her that there was no way in hell I was coming to some stupid party but somehow, she disappeared. I huffed my way to my locker knowing that if I didn't get a move on; I would be late for Government.
