Chapter 1

I'm facing the mirror brushing my long brunette hair, my green skin sparkling like an emerald from the sunlight pouring in through my bedroom window. I'm so excited, today is going to be my first day at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. I'm 16 so I'm going to go straight into my sixth year. Hogwarts used to not allow apples or descendants of apples to attend Hogwarts but they finally changed the rules.

Oh right you must be confused, I haven't introduced myself. My name is Pippa Gold Smith and I am a muggle-born or apple-born I should say. My father is an apple and my mother is a muggle. They met in the supermarket and have been inseparable since and now here I am, their only daughter.

I had attended a muggle primary school and started getting my powers around 10. However since Hogwarts could't let me in, Dumbledore came to meet us and say what was going on. He wanted Hogwarts to accept apples but the school board would not allow it. Needless to say my parents were freaked out, they thought I was any other average girl. Ya know, half human, half apple.

So Dumbledore had introduced me to a witch that lived on our road who had taught me magic for the last 5 years. Of course I never actually performed magic as that would be illegal but I learnt about technique and history and different spells. I could not wait to finally do some magic for once.

I look in the mirror as I put my checkered shirt around my round green body. I inherited my fathers looks but my mothers brunette hair I look at my body in different angles and start feeling extremely self conscious. 'What if I'm the only apple there? Surely I would stand out'. I had never met another person like me who was also half apple so I had felt different all my life.

I take my suitcase and make my way downstairs into the entrance of the house, my dad waiting there for me looking as if he was about to burst out crying any second. He had always been the emotional one in our family. I walk in front of him, bring my suitcase to a stop next to me. "I'll be fine dad, don't cry", I console my dad. As soon as I say this he starts bursting out crying. "Yes I know dear, but this is the first time you're going to be away from home", he immediately wipes off his tears. "Just promise me that you'll try to stay safe".

I give him an exasperated look, "Dad I'm going to a school, not to fight in a war, I'm going to be fine". He nods not quite reassured yet and then exhales loudly. "Okay, well better hurry up then, your mums waiting for you in the car, I would drop you but...well I don't have any legs, I'm an apple" My dad gives me a hug and then rolls away into the living room dejectedly.

I step out of the house and start walking towards the car and turn back to look at the house and let out a deep breath. I'm going to miss this place. I have never stayed in another place. This is where I grew up. One stray tear leaves my eye which I wipe away quickly and turn back around and start walking to the car. "Come on, Pippa, otherwise the train will leave", my mum shouted. I quickly put my suitcase into the boot of the car and jump into the passenger seat. My mum was excited about me experiencing this whole new world of magic. She was the only person to think I was special. I look back at the house and see my dad in the living room window, waving while sobbing. I wave back as my mum drives off towards Kings Cross. We already lived in London so it would't be a long drive.

As soon as we get there my mum helps with the suitcase and we start running into the station. My mum looks at her watch. "Damn its 10:58", my mum says grabbing a trolley to put my suitcase in and we start running again. We finally reach platform 9 3/4 and I look apprehensively at the wall. "Come on Pippa, we both can do it", Mum says to me as I look at the wall with doubt which changes to determination. We both hold onto the trolley and run into the wall and find ourselves onto platform 9 3/4.

I look behind me to find the brick wall there and then look in front of me my eyes open wide with shock, my mums reaction mirroring mine. We see all the other children are already on the train and the parents waving so we run quickly towards one of the trains doors and I hop in while my mum passes my suitcase to me and she quickly pulls me into a hug. "Take care Pippa, I'm going to miss you so much, don't forget to write", my mum says her voice breaking at the end.

I did not feel like going now. It was dawning on me that I wouldn't see my parents for months. I start crying into my mums shoulder to which my mum starts rubbing my back to comfort me. "No Pippa, don't cry, you're going to have so much fun, okay". The trains engine sounds and the train starts moving slowly so we quickly pull away. "I love you, Pippa", my mum says wiping a stray tear. "I love you too mum", I say and then the train starts picking up its pace and my mum slowly fades from view.

I stand by the door for a while trying to calm myself down. 'This is going to be great, Pippa', I try to encourage myself. After hearing about what Hogwarts is like for 5 years from my teacher, I can finally see and experience it for myself. Just like that, my previous anxiety and sadness quickly dissipates. I grab the handle of my suitcase and turn around to go find an empty compartment  and end up bumping into someone. "Look where you're going", he turns to face me, his icy blue eyes glowering at me. My heartbeat increases as I start to check him out.

His blonde hair is slicked to one side and he's dressed in an all black suit. He eyes me up and down. "I can't believe they've started allowing apples to Hogwarts, fucking mudbloods", and then turns to walk away leaving me there with my mouth open. 'Omg what a bitch', I thought to myself. 'Good looking but still a bitch'. I grab my suitcase handle and walk down the aisle to find a compartment. 'This is gonna be a long year', I sigh to myself.
