Brooklyn

My name is Brooklyn Jones and I love music.

Hi, my name is Brooklyn but everyone calls me Brook.

Hey, my name is Brooklyn. Can you please be my friend?

I groan quietly, leaning back in my seat.

What am I going to say to 7 classes of gawking strangers?

I hate this.

Moving to a whole new school is the worst thing that could ever happen to someone in high school.
Especially during senior year.

I may as well be an alien.

My brother Dante laughs beside me.

"You nervous?"
He asks, a big smile on his face.

I roll my eyes, folding my arms.

Of course he is happy.

He doesn't have to go to school anymore.

"Let's turn around. We can try again tomorrow, yeah?"
I ask hopefully, glancing at Gabby in the backseat.

She rolls her eyes at me.

"No. Danny, you better not turn around. We've 'tried this tomorrow' twice already."
She complains, leaning forward between us.

Danny grins sheepishly at me, focusing on the road.

"She's right. Sorry sis."

I sigh, resting my head against the window.

I hate living without mom, Julia, and dad.

They still live in Washington.

Danny got a promotion which required him to move here and he offered for us to move in with him.

Mom and Julia are best friends and I could tell that being parents got in the way of their friendship sometimes.

Dad didn't want us to leave.

We are all pretty close, my parents and my siblings.

They are my best friends.

I don't really get along with other people.

Gabby is the complete opposite.

I like the fact that I've known them both my whole life.
I never had to go through the process of seeing if they are loyal.

I know them both inside out.

"I wish I could go in there with you guys. But I know how embarrassing it would be to be seen with a legal guardian at school. I used to hate that."
Danny says, looking in the review mirror.

Gabby scoffs.

"Dude, you aren't even old. But we don't want you to be late for work so you can just drop us off. Maybe next time?"
She asks as the school comes into view.

I shrink down in my seat.

I hate meeting new people.

People just love to stare at us.

Gabby loves it.

I do not.

"Okay guys. I'll see you a home, yeah? We can go out and celebrate our first official day of freedom."
H says, stopping the car.

I don't make a move to get out.

"Come on, Brook. We're going to be late."
Gabby complains, getting out.
