Mastery of Vanishing

"Yes, that is quite clear, though; I have to wonder why no one came looking for Evelyn or you. Someone should have noticed your two's disappearance."

Quite right and they did for Evelyn. Luckily for Nathan, he could clean the place of evidence to what really had happened and merely state that he had come home late only to find his girlfriend murdered. Not to mention that he had an alibi of being at work at the time of the murder.

As for me, I disappeared completely from the scene. A nice perk, of the spell that Nathan used, is that all memory of the victim is erased from the world. My things may still be present, but no one, except the executioner who cast the spell, will know who those items belonged to.

"What about the picture and me talking to you right now?"

Well, all past and present memories of me at the time that the spell is cast are erased. Any future ones can form. For instance you knew me before the incident, and you see a picture of me after it. You won't forget me after you set the picture down. Rather, you'll remember the person in the picture, but you can only form new memories and/or opinions about them. Anything from the past is gone and can never be recalled.

"What about your birth records? Would your name be erased from them?"

No, my name is still on those records as is my other information, but no one will know who I am still. They may have my name, my blood type, etc., but they will have no idea how that record came to be. Someone may find my things, my pictures, my personal information, but they will never be able to tie that back to anything in the past. They could form theories, but they could never be certain.

"That doesn't make sense. If someone looked at your birth records, they could tie you back to your parents. From looking at pictures, they could associate you as a past friend of Nathan's."

All very true but again they could only form theories, like what you were doing. Additionally, my parents have no memory of me; they will merely claim that someone was playing a prank on them and decided to give them a fake son for whatever reason. All pictures of me in their home would be found to be some elaborate joke.

Actually, that is what happened. After the incident they had come over here, since they had found a picture of Nathan and me together. They also had explained that "this random boy" was in a lot of their pictures and that they had found birth records of him as well in their files. Nathan had claimed that he hadn't known me and had stated that he had no idea how he had come to be in a picture with me.

Instead, he had crafted a story that someone was playing a detailed prank on them and that they should toss out anything they had of me. It had helped that he had cast a persuasion spell on them as well. After the discussion, they had presumably followed his advice, and I haven't seen them since.

So not only had Nathan robbed Drem of his remaining life, but the antique collector removed him from the memory of anyone that ever knew him. The only two people that could remember Drem's past was Drem himself and Nathan. His parents never even learned of their son's death, and he had to watch his parents call him a mere prank.

What had possessed Nathan to learn such a spell anyway? Had he been actually taking Drem's fortunes to heart and decided to study that spell in the process. Was the antique collector planning to destroy his friend from Drem's first warning?

The more she listened, the more Nathan seemed worse to her. Drem had caused her significant suffering, but he himself had been through severe physical, mental and emotional trauma. His behavior was making more and more sense to her, and she could only imagine how mad she might go if she were to be put in his shoes.

"Drem, what you have experienced is awful, and you can talk to me over the next few days about it if you would like. I can't stay here, however. This isn't my home, and I have my goals to accomplish."

Couldn't you visit? That surely wouldn't hurt, would it? Nathan will seal me to some other object the moment he gets back. I could try and stop him, but he's a gifted executioner. He will probably have me sealed before I can lay a hand on him.

I don't want to be sealed away again with no company to look forward to. I don't wish to experience that loneliness again. Please, don't submit me to that, my little doe. Please, promise me that you'll at least give me some company after you go.

You never have to forgive me; you never have to love me. I just want your company. I just desire what Nathan thought he could deny me. Please, tell me that you'll accept. Promise me just this one thing.

(F/n) didn't answer at first. She didn't know if she could promise that, but she would only be visiting him once in awhile. What if, though, he just became more attached to her with time; what if he stopped her from leaving during one of those visits? Of course, Nathan would be presumably nearby, but there was the issue of whether the antique collector would even let her in his home.

"Drem, I don't know. That may seem like a simple promise to you, but it's not. Despite me understanding you and your situation better, I ..."

You can't trust me. You're afraid that I might do something. Then, consider it at least. You have a few days to think it over, and we have a few days to get to know the other better. You can tell me more about your passion for art. A normal conversation like that would probably be good for both of us, don't you think?
