Chapter 2

The next time you saw Derek you were on a run. It was in the wood and you had lost your earphones the other day when you had gone on your evening run so you were looking for them as you ran.
It seemed even creepier with music pounding in your ears. Trees curled their branches towards you and it was like you could hear every twig snap and animal scurrying across the floor.
Carry on running, (y/n), you said to yourself, nothing is out to get you.
Suddenly, you hear the pounding of footsteps behind you.
You start running faster and faster as if to try and get away from the unknown person.
Your heart is pounding in your chest.
Then you tripped over the root of a tree and fell flat on your face.
"Need a hand?" A voice behind you says.
You roll over on to your back so you can see who this stranger is.
"Derek?" You say.
"Yeah, that's me," he says back, holding his hand out to help you up. "(y/n), isn't it?"
"Yeah," you reply accepting his help up.
"Are you alright?" Derek asked.
"I'm good, except for you scaring me to death," you laughed.
"Huh,"
"Oh I heard someone behind me and my imagination took over" you explained, embarrassed.
"Oh sorry." he said as he looked at his feet.
"No, that's okay. What are you doing out here anyway? You're not exactly dressed for a run."
He was wearing dark jeans, a black top and black boots; not exactly running clothes. Although it was a really good look on him. Dark and mysterious.
"Oh, I live not far from here and I thought I heard someone out here and thought that maybe these were yours." he said holding up my favourite pair of earphones.
"Oh my God!! My favourite earphones! Where did you find them?!?" you practically shouted.
"I found them when I went for a run yesterday," he chuckled.
"Thank you so much. You are now my favourite person,"
He laughed again.
Then he handed back your earphones but his hand lingered touching yours, sending sparks down your arm.
It rendered you speechless.
"Umm... I suppose I ... I had better go.. Umm... thanks for finding my earphones... I had better go.. bye," You stuttered, turned and practically ran away; your heart pounding in your chest, only for a completely different reason.
What is wrong with me? you thought.
