rain streaked down the windows as they held each other close. this would be their last day together and already it was ruined by the weather.
"i dont want you to leave me." she said.
"i have to, you know i dont have a choice, if i could i would stay."
"promise me we will see each other again." she begged.
he looked into her deep blue eyes that were over flowing with tears already and said "i will do better than that."
"what can possibly be better than that?" she asked.
"i promise that i will come back for you no matter how long it takes."
lilly's mother appeared in the doorway, she looked sad, like she was going to miss having him around too. "dan, your mother just arrived, do you want me to stall her for you?"
he looked back at me, i could tell he didnt want to go. "no, if i dont leave now then i will never be able to." he pulled me into a hug and said "goodbye lilly, i hope to see you soon."
i watched him get into his mothers dented blue toyota and wave goodbye one more time before he left.
