The Freshman Manager

The First Practice

Today was the first day of football practice and I was gonna be the manager. I wasn't going to play Volleyball this year because I wanted to get out of my comfort zone and also because I knew playing would aggravate my shoulder so I just stuck with managing football.

SKIP TO PRACTICE

When i got the the school for practice the guys were already there and just stared at me because I was a girl and the started asking what I was doing there. And luckily the coach decided to come out at that point and introduced me.

"Boys this is your manager, April Mitchell. Be nice to her or you have to will answer to me. Understand?" He said

"Yes sir." They said in unison.

"Good now go start warming up. Two laps around the field then do your stretches." Coach Spencer said. He then turned to me and said, "Now April, here's how being a manger works. Show up before the guys do which is 3:30, fill water bottles, when the guys show up if they need you to tape something you tape it, and at the end of the practice wait until everybody is gone and then pick up a little bit. Got the gyst?"

"Um. I think so, thanks Coach." I replied.

"Ok good. The water bottles are in the locker room I will have Mr. Hunter bring them out to you so you can fill them." He said.

"Ok sir."

As he is walking a way he yells the name Hunter outside and a guy about 5'11" walks up to him and starts talking to him. I caught the last of their conversation. This Hunter kid said yes sir and started walking up to me.

"You must be April. I'm Jayson Hunter." He said with a smile.

"Yeah that's me. Nice to meet you Jayson." I replied.

"I'll go grab those water bottles for you."

"Thank you." I say as hes walking away.

When he comes back he has two water bottle carriers with him. Well that was fast.

"Well here you go. Just holler at me if you need anything else." He said.

"Ok I will. Thanks!" Wow when did i become so cheery??

I go to fill the water bottles up when I see a guy from my past that I have tried so hard to forget. Ashton Munoz. Luckily Jayson hasnt gone back outside yet.

" Hey Jayson can you come here for a second please?" I asked.

"Yeah what's up?" He asked in a worried/concerned voice.

"Do you know a guy named Ashton Munoz?" I asked in almost a whisper while looking at the ground.

"Uh. Yeah why?" He asked confused.

"Um. No reason. Thank you." I said hurriedly.

"Your welcome."

I then went on my way to filling up the water bottles hoping that Ashton wouldn't notice me. Once I was done filling up the water i took them outside and sat down. Once I sat down the coach yell at me telling me to go over to him.

"Whatcha need coach?" I asked him.

"I need you to go over to the shed over there and get two hitting bags out. And just put them over by the goal post."

"Yes sir." I replied.

" Hey Jayson can you hang back for a second please?" I asked him.
