It wasn't until later when I realized who I was talking to, and even then I was just confused. What would a popular Football Jock be doing dancing at a dance competition? And then that brought up the question, Is he gay? Even thought I knew he wasn't.

----------------------------------------------

On Monday the 24th I noticed he was in the same pod as me and we had the same free period, 8th. I really wanted to go talk to him all day but I knew that I would be way out of my league. A girl with the popularity level of 50 talking to a 100. That would never work. I kept wondering what WOULD happen if I did. By the end of seventh block I had mustered up enough of what very little courage I had and waltzed on over to him.

"Trenten?" I squeaked. Not ready for my voice to come out.

"Um can I help you?" He said.

"It's me, Lilith. From the competition."

"Oh right! I'm so sorry I didn't remember. Let's go talk somewhere a little more private, eh?"

(Did I mention he was Canadian?)

Trenten Jones wants to talk to ME in a private area?!! YES.

"Okay, let's go."

He led me to a side work room that nobody was ever in. Luckily the door was unlocked. we slipped in and I sat down on the round work table. Trent sat right in front of me in a squeaky plastic chair that made noises every time he moved.

Then he started talking.

"Listen. I really don't want anyone to know that I dance, I'll get bullied like crazy. Please. This can be our little secret. Don't tell anyone"

"I wasn't planning on it."

After a few moments of awkward silence Trenten speaks up again.

"Your dance was amazing."

"Thank you." I say. A little caught off guard.

"What made you do a dance about suicide?" He asks.

"Oh, a lot of things really." I decide not to tell him the truth, that I wish I had the guts to do it myself.

"C'mon. You can tell me."

"I don't trust that easy, boy." I say with sass in my tone.

"What do I have to do to get your trust?" He says, "I want to know more about you, Lilith Marie."

Our conversation ended abruptly when the final bell rang. We both left and walked back to our lockers. As I began to walk away with all my things, Trenten called to me,

"Lilith! How am I supposed to get to know you better without your phone number?" He has that goofy smile on his face.

As I walked over I let my phone number spill out of my mouth, maybe a little too fast and a little too excited. "4038675309."

"Okay," he said, "I'll be sure to text you."
