Hell.
That's what Krystal felt her world was right now. She never imagined that hell would be so cold, so numb, so constricted. She figured that after she died she would at least be in a warmer place and that she wouldn't have to continue living this miserable life. "Stupid government. Stupid soldiers. Stupid life" is all she could say in her mind while she was slowly freezing to death.
She didn't have anywhere to go now, she had no one, she didn't even have a warm place to sleep or even a blanket. Normally Krystal would've invited the winter weather, watching snowflakes fall outside of the windows of her house but now she had no protection from the danger of the cold.
"Stupid soldiers" she muttered to herself again. Yesterday soldiers came to the orphan house she was staying at and told her that since the owner couldn't pay the fees he owed the soldiers, she and the rest of the children were kicked out, and the soldiers sought to it the children would be left with nothing.
Anger raged in Krystal. If it weren't for these soldiers she would be in a living room sitting next to a warm fire. The soldiers raided her town about 5 months ago and it was horrible. They separated the rich from the poor, they threw innocent families on the street and for orphaned children like Krystal they were forced to leave from the only home they knew. A vast majority of those people died since none of them had a home, protection, food or money, in fact it was a miracle that Krystal was able to stay at her orphan house for as long as she did but she knew that her time would be inevitable.
"Yeah... I'm definitely going to be dead by tomorrow morning. They probably won't even care. One more corpse isn't going to change anything in this hell town" Krystal said to herself as she lay down on the road waiting for her inevitable death.
"Is she dead"?
Krystal's eyes opened to the male voice that had questioned if she was alive. The boy looked around 16 to 17 years old but she couldn't tell, all she saw was a fuzzy image of the male stranger and his platinum blonde hair.
"What on earth are you doing out here on a night like this"?
Krystal thought that the stranger was just talking to himself but then see saw the stranger ask the same question while staring directly at her.
"Cold..." is the only word she could cough out of her blue lips and after that Krystal lost consciousness and hit the cement road.
"Come on... come on. You awake? Just hold on I'll get you a blanket and some warm tea ok". Krystal just groaned as soon as the light hit her eyes. "Finally, I was getting worried, can you move?" All Krystal did to confirm that question was to move her fingers and to attempt to stretch her arms, but just ached in the pain.
"I'm so glad you're alive. When I found you, you were almost dead. Are you sure you're alright? I can get you something if you want". "Food... warmth... please". The friendly stranger soon brought along a plate of some warm bread and a blanket. "Listen I know you must be confused and a bit sick, but just know that you're in a safe place. It must be scary waking up in weather like that and, well I couldn't just let you freeze to death. By the way if you don't mind me asking, what were you doing out there on the streets, I usually see adults on the streets cause none of them have a job or money and by the time I find them they're already dead, it's just a bit weird for me to see a teenage girl on the streets is all I'm saying. Why were you all alone out there? Did you get lost or something?" Silence. As soon as the stranger got up to get more food Krystal muttered to the stranger "Or something". "What do you mean by that? Do you not have a home? Where are your parents?" "Dead" is what Krystal said while digging her head into her knees to try to hide her emotions from the stranger.
"Oh... well if you don't have anywhere to go... I wouldn't mind if you stay here... it might be nice to have a roommate of sorts". "Stay here? I barely even know you, I just met you". "You're right. Well then... Hello my name is Milo and your name is?" "Krystal, nice to meet you Milo". "Krystal, that's a cool name. Anyway you won't have to worry about being thrown on the streets again, my dad works outside of town but he always sends me money so I can pay for rent and buy food so you'll be fine". "Well your lucky. I used to live with my parents but they died and I was living in an orphan home but then I had to leave. That's why I was on the streets." "Like I said you can stay here. I know it's not much but at least it's better than suffering in the streets. Here, I'll get you some more food and another cup of tea". Milo made his way across the room and then suddenly turned to Krystal. "Why did you leave your home?" The room was filled with silence as Krystal tried to say what made her leave and in her mind she saw armed men and it caused her to flinch a little bit. "I was... forced to leave".
For a short moment Milo just stood there wondering about something but then his friendly smile was back on his face. "I see. Well I'm glad I found you when I did".
