a letter to my future lover: a poem
there are some things you should know about me:
please be patient with me.
i am good at making something out of nothing. i can detect the slightest change of tone through your text messages, and i can fill the spaces between your words with a million apologies.
when you ask what my favorite color is, i will automatically say "yellow" out of habit, but just know that i've fallen in love with the color of your eyes.
i am easily distracted, but do not let this fool you; i do notice the tiniest details. from the fidget in your hand, to the twinkle in your eye, to the way you slowly push your hair back.
i will make it my duty to memorize your favorite movies and songs, your dreams and the way you make your coffee. i'll memorize the way you hold my hand and the amount of time it takes you to unbutton your shirt.
so you can pull me in closer and let me melt into you with heavy breathing and quiet 'i love you's, and we can become one.
maybe one day you'll need me as much as you need your first cup of coffee in the morning, and darling, i am willing to wait for that day.
