(Liv's POV)

"Olivia! Olivia! OLIVIA!" I heard my uncle yell from down the stairs

I could tell he was drunk, by the way Oliva like 'Olive'

By now being drunk, was his normal state. My aunt and I were more than use to it

"Coming" I yelled back, sighing loudly as I got out of my old and squeaky bed

I ran down the stairs and into the living room

"Liv" he yelled one last time, before I was standing in front of him

"I'm right here" I said to him, looking into his worn out, brown eyes

My uncle was in the same shirt he had been in three days ago. He smelled of scotch and sweat. His hair was oily and greasy, his beard grown out, and his eyes nearly completely shut

"Get me some beer" he grumbled, watching tv

I scoffed

"Are you serious? You're right next to the fridge" I said to him, extending my arm towards the kitchen, which was a few steps away

He didn't say anything, just stayed silent. He seemed to sit up

I huffed out and walked over to the fridge, opening it and getting a can of beer. I opened the can and whipped my hand, as the bear splattered on it

I slowly walked over to my uncle and gave it to him

He took it from my hand and looked up at me. He smiled and then got up

"Oh Liv" he sighed and then threw it against the wall, behind me

I winced back, looking up at him.

He was standing over me with hate in his eyes

"When I tell you to do something, you do it and you shut your mouth" he yelled, taking a step forwards

"I just-" I started, but he had slapped me across the face

Pain shot up my right cheek, as he hit me again. His hand rose up in the air, but the next blow, didn't come

The front door opened and in walked my aunt, huffing

She was tired as usual

"Liv, Nick, I'm back " she yelled, not looking up from the door knob

I winced, hearing her sigh. She was so tired, I could tell

When she looked up, she dropped all her groceries on the floor and ran towards me

"Liv, are you alright? What happened?" she asked me, helping me up to my feet

"That little bitch need to learn some manners" my uncle growled, turning around and walking back towards the couch

"Nick you can't just hit her, she has school. People are going to start asking about the bruises" my aunt told him, turning towards her husband

She might as well, have been talking to a wall. That man cared for no one but himself, sadly, my aunt didn't see that. She saw a man who took her away from one abusive relationship, only to submit her to another one. But this time, this man tells her he loves her and cares for we, only to hit her again

"I don't care about what they think. She should be grateful that I took her in and didn't leave her in a ditch" he opened another can of beer and stomped over to his room

"Baby girl, are you okay?" My aunt asked, helping hold me up

I pulled away from her and placed a hand over my cheek

"Why don't you leave him? You know that he's doesn't deserve you, he is a deadbeat that drinks more than he showers" I ignored her question and walking towards the freezer to get some ice

"Olivia, I'm not going over this with you. He is good to me" she said, getting a towel to wrap it around the ice

"Don't call me Olivia, it's Liv and you and I both know the he treats the stray dog, better then he treats us" I grumbled, taking the ice from her and placing it softly over my cheek bone

"Liv, I'm tired. Can we just discuss this later?" she asked me, leaning over the kitchen counter

I sighed, giving up

"Alright, go to sleep, I'll put this all away" I smiled at her, knowing that I would get no where, as usual

"Thanks Liv. I love you, no matter what. I truly love you" she smiled at me, placing her hand over the cheek that wasn't starting to bruise

Before she left, she kissed my head and looked into my eyes

"I'm sorry I couldn't give you the life you deserved....the life you would have had with your parents, but believe me...I'm doing my best" she whispered and squeezed my hand

I didn't know what to say, so I just let her walk away

"I know you are" I whispered, once she was gone and turned to put away all the groceries

Once I was done, I headed outside of the small apartment room, where my best friend, Shepley was

He was leaning down over the broke down, piece of junk, he called his car

"Shep" I yelled, running towards him

He turned around and smiled brightly

"Hey Liv" he said, whipping his hands on his jeans and wrapping his arms around my shoulder

I smiled up at him, closing my eyes

"Have you gotten it yet?" he asked me, pulling away

I scrunched my nose and shook my head

"Don't worry, I'm sure they will send it to you. You have to get into the school. You have to" he smiled, tapping my nose

"Shep, millions of people apply to that school, the odds of me getting into the school are slim to none" I huffed, pulling away and crossing my arms in front of my chest

"You're right, millions of people apply, but none of them are like you" he smiled down at me

I smiled widely and raised an eyebrow

"Thanks Romeo" I teased him

He chuckled and turned back towards his car

"No, but seriously, I hope I get in" I said, nervously

Shep turned to look at me and winked

"You will.....I promise"

"Hey Shepley?" I asked

"Yeah?" He asked me, turning around

"thanks "

"Thanks for what?" He asked

"For nothing.....everything. Just....thanks" I smiled at him

He nodded, smiling at me

Smiling back at him, I headed back to my small apartment room, where I could hear, peaceful snores of my aunt and uncle

I couldn't even remember the way my life was, before I started living with them

Not did I remember my mom or dad. I didn't remember my home or even if I had siblings

My aunt and uncle didn't  talk about them at all and when they did, my uncle usually is cursing them

Now I was 20 and the only thing I wanted was to get into Landon College, the best College there was

I just hoped that Shepley was right
