Ida pushed, gritting her teeth as she had yet another contraction. They were getting closer together now any minute she would have to push harder.
The pain was unbelievable almost to much for Ida as her belly convulsed in another contraction.
"Your almost there Ida push harder" Ida heard one of the nurses shout. Ida's. Vision began to grow foggy as darkness threatened to overtake her.
But no she had to have this baby, she wanted to hear the heart warming sensation of hearing her baby's cry. She pushed harder.
"I can see its head!" A different nurse shouted with excitement.
"One more big push!" The female doctor who was helping Ida deliver her baby told Ida her voice calm as if everything was going swell.
But no, in fact it was the opposite of good. Ida could barely see, she fought and fought to stay awake but her head swayed with nausea and she shivered with a mixture of fear and pain.
Before she knew it nurses were shaking her awake as they handed her a small infant her skin like a tan cream.
"Awe" Ida gasped as she reached for the baby. She held it in her arms all the blood was wiped off of it and it's hands reached out grasping her nose. "Awee" was all Ida could manage to get out of her mouth while she cradled the baby in her arms.
"What would you like to name it?" The nurse who had squeaked with excitement asked.
Ida didn't even have to think twice "Arie" after her favorite Disney movie. 'Ariel' she loved that movie growing up and she hoped that this baby would be just like Ariel for she was curious and always up for adventure.
"Ahem" the doctor inturrupted her thoughts. "I know this is a bit much to ask of you Ida, but we have a baby who much like Arie here was just born." The doctor looked to the door awkwardly avoiding Ida's gaze. "Except her mother died of childbirth" Ida nodded. "We were hopping you could er, adopt it?" She asked.
Ida to awed to think clearly nodding and smiling she said yes. Then a new nurse came in with an even smaller baby who was pale like ivory. Her nose was tiny and she had big eyes though they were still closed. Blood still covered the baby though Ida could tell the nurses and doctors had tried to wipe it off.
A nurse took away Arie putting her in a clear crib like thing and replaced her with the new baby that Ida would now have to act as if it were her own.
When the baby fell in her arms Ida would have expected to become attached but she came to be disgusted by it. How could she have said yes to taking care of it? Ida tried to bite back her anger and she guessed she hid it well for the nurses smiled happily and clapped.
"I'll call you Josie" Ida said sweetly giving the baby a simple but cute name hopefully making her like the baby more.
The nurse who had brought Josie in took her away and placed her into a new clear crib and padded Ida on the back whispering in her ear "get some rest"
It took only seconds for exhaustion to heavy her eyelids and for Ida to fall into a deep sleep.
She never got to hear a baby's first cry.
