I quickly packed up and left. Today was the big day. The day that I would decide my life. Either I became a part of the resistance or the enemy. Today was the day that I would become part of the world's last hope or trapped with being forever stuck with destruction and misery.

I dashed through the hidden tunnel built into the floor of the house. It was originally built for fun and games for the children. Fortunately it was left there in the house. I used that for my escape route so no one would notice me.

It wouldn't be long before I would reach Alayna's house, just a few blocks away. Alayna was my only friend. She has been there for me since we were kids. She's the only one who knows about the tunnel and my secret. The secret. The secret that would be the key to solving the war or making it unstoppable. Even though Alayna knew about the secret it was him who would be the one to make the decision. Him and only him.

Alayna knew that and had discussed the decision with him several times. It always ended up with a fight. Still I had no clue what to do. So this was going to be a difficult decision to make. If only he knew what to do. If only he knew the right decision. If only.

By the time he reached Alayna's house it was close to noon and he hadn't eaten since 7:00 this morning. His stomach began to rumble and he knew that he had to eat or he would surely get sick. He neared Alayna's house. He could see the pretty tulips blooming in her yard and the peacefulness of her house. He wished he could have a nice family and not have to worry where his next meal would come from.

He reached her wooden steps and climbed them. Slowly he gave her small doorbell a gentle push and waited for Alayna to answer. Oddly no one came to the door. He peered through the window to see the house was vacant. Where was Alayna and her family. Instantly he assumed the worst until a small weeping sound came from inside the vacant house.

He walked to the back of his friend's house and searched for the owner of the weeping. At the back of the house he found a small girl sitting on the cold hard ground, weeping. Her hands cupped over her eyes. He walked over to the girl and keeled down to speak with her. He put his hand around the small girl.

The girl looked at him. She had pretty irises and long scarlet hair that reached to her small shoulders. Her eyes were blood red from crying and her skin wet from tears. She spoke gently and quietly as if she was talking about a big secret.

"Are you the one who took my mother?", she asked, as she looked to the ground as if she was ashamed for asking. He didn't know how to react to such a question so instead he just shook his head. The girl now looked as if she was now alone forever and would never again be the same.

"Oh, well then who are you then?", the girl asked, now looking at me. Her dark gray eyes seemed to have that sadness in them that could make even the most vile villains take pity for her.

"Uh I'm Jayden. Who are you, are you lost?", I asked the little girl, careful of my wording. She simply shook her head and looked away.

"My family was taken away when I was four, I couldn't even talk. I watched as the man came into my home. He had on a velvet mask and a long, dangerous sword in his belt. He asked my father something and I watched as my father shook his head in reply. Then I watched as the man grabbed my father's neck and hoisted him up in the air. My father struggled to get free but it was no use. The man was too strong for my father. My mother came rushing in from the kitchen and keeled before the man. She pleaded with the man for mercy but the man didn't give a second thought and slapped her to the floor. Then I saw the man grab something from his belt and flicked it to the floor. Instantly the floor erupted in flames. The man laughed and snapped my father's neck like a twig. He then threw the lifeless body to the ground. My mother grabbed me and ran to the exit. The man was about to leave when he glanced behind himself and saw that my mother was going to escape. He grabbed his sword and threw it toward my mother. His aim was perfect. The sword pierced her heart and she collapsed, unable to carry me. Fortunately I managed to escape as my only home erupted in a giant explosion that sent me soaring through the air. I landed in a plain a few yards away from my home. I looked up to see smoke coming from a few yards away. I fell to the ground crying, devastated by the traumatic events that had just occurred. I had lost my only family and now I was all alone, with nowhere to go, nowhere to rest. So I've been trying to survive alone for the past few years. I've finally reached a small town where I could rest, only to find out that nobody wants a homeless, parent-less child. That's when I came here and I couldn't hold it back anymore. I fell to the ground sobbing until you came and found me here.", replied the little girl.

I stared at the girl, seething mad. I now knew what to do. Then I realized that the girl was holding a small totem. The strange item was covered in designs too strange to decipher. The girl was clinging on to the totem as if her life depended on it. I looked up to see the girl staring at me with trust.

Then in an instant the look vanished and was replaced with a look of fear. I followed her gaze to a shadowy figure in the distance. I could barely make out a velvet mask and a long sword in the figure's belt. I then realized her fear. That was one a man just like the man who murdered her family. I quickly sprang up and snatched the little girl's hand.

"Run.", I told the girl. Instantly we were running towards an open field. I glimpsed behind me only to find out that the velvet suited man was now chasing after them. He shouted something but we were to far to hear. We were now nearing the field.

All of a sudden I collapsed into the weeds of the open field. I lay there watching as the girl knelled down and shook my body. The last thing I saw was the girl weeping atop me. Then my vision went black and I went unconscious.

The next thing I remember was the loud clanking of chains being rattled violently. My vision cleared and I was able to see where I was. I was in a damp and dim dungeon surrounded by ancient webs and spiders. I was hanging from the ground by chains built into the molded concrete wall. Beside me crying was the little girl I had encountered at Alayna's house.

Then I realized that I had no idea where Alayna was. The thought was so unbearable that I had to take deep breaths to get over the thought that Alayna may be hurt. Or worse.

First I had to get out of this rotting dungeon. I looked to my side to see if there was a window. But there was no such thing. I looked to my other side. It was the same thing. This was useless I thought. Then a noise came from above.

I glanced up to see a shadow move along the wall. The shadow summer-saulted to a shady corner of the dungeon. The figure looked straight at him, showing it's fierce eyes. Then the shadow stepped out of the corner to reveal itself.

The shadow was a tall girl with a black bandana wrapped around her mouth. She wore a silk shirt with jeans. Her fierce eyes were a dark shade of purple. The mysterious figure had long, slick hazel hair flowing from her forehead down to her elbows. I instantly recognized the mysterious figure. Even through her disguise I could recognized her anywhere. It was none other than Alayna.
