Loosely inspired by "when he sees me" from Waitress. If you'd like a part two, let me know, I have some ideas for other songs from this musical! :)
Jeremy sits in a diner booth with Christine. He bounces his legs up and down, nervously twitching and fidgeting.
"Jeremy! You really need to calm down!" She grabs ahold of his sweating hands and gently squeezes them.
"I can't do this, Christine!" He shrieks and pulls his hands back.
Let's set the scene, Jeremy is not so patiently waiting for Michael (his best friend of twelve years) to show up. Usually Jeremy would never be nervous to see Michael, but today was different, they were about to have their very first formal date.
Christine sat by for moral support and to make sure Jeremy wouldn't ditch this date due to his raging anxiety.
"Hey, you have nothing to worry about! Michael will be here anytime now and it'll go great." Christine tries to assure her friend.
"You don't understand!" Jeremy pulls at his bow tie and gestures towards his face, "What if when he sees me, he doesn't like it? What if he runs the other way and I can't hide from it!" He brings his hands towards his face.
"Don't be silly! He'll love your little bow tie," she giggles.
"It gets worse! What if when he sees me, I like him and he knows it? What if he opens up a door and I can't close it! What if when he holds me and my heart is set in motion, I'm not prepared for that!" Jeremy gasps for air, out of breath from talking too fast.
Christine just sighs and softly smiles.
"I'm scared of breaking open but I can't stop myself from hoping," he whispers to himself and rests his head on his hands.
Minutes pass and finally the brown head boy enters the diner.
"Gotta blast!" Christine jumps up and takes a seat in a nearby booth.
Jeremy stands up to greet Michael, only to end up tripping over his own feet and falling right into his date instead.
"Woah! Jeremy, my dude, you need to watch your step." Michael laughs and lifts Jeremy back to his feet.
"R-right, yeah. S-sorry about that."
The boys take their seats, sitting opposite of each other in a small Michael takes ahold of Jeremy's hand, "you look nice. Like, really nice."
Jeremy's cheeks turn a soft crimson, "th-thank you."
They order their meals and engage in quiet small talk.
Jeremy looks over Michael's shoulder where Christine is seen signalling a thumbs up.
He giggles to himself and continues to talk, "this was really nice Michael."
"Yeah, it was." Michael leans in and whispers, "uh I was thinking, we could like go to my house after this. Get stoned? Mostly get out of here, Christine's freaking me out"
Jeremy cringes internally, the thought of Michael knowing she was here made this extra awkward. "Y-yeah, we can go now."
