Red Hood

Prologue

  "Jason wait! you can't just go against the joker on your own!" Cassandra tugged on Jason's sleeve begging him to listen to her.
  "Cassie, I can't let the Joker get away with this he's gone too far this time! He bombed a school full of children just for fun! Batman had his chance to send that bastard to hell and he didn't. Now it's Robin's turn."
  He pulled her into his embrace and kissed her long and hard before putting on his domino mask and fixing his Robin suit. He ran out the door, jumping off the fire escape, on to his motorcycle and speeding off into the frigid night. Cassandra tried to run after him but tripped and fell over the huge piles snow, all while desperately calling his name. Helpless tears were running down her face but she angrily wipedthem off and ran inside grabbing the keys to her aunts cars. She got inside the car and hurriedly made her way to Wayne Manor. Only one person could help Jason now. She just hoped she wouldn't be too late...

  Once Cassandra reached Bruce's home she quickly got out of the car not bothering to turn it off. She ran up the steps and pounded on the door when she reached it.
  "Bruce! Alfred! Somebody answer the door!!" Suddenly the door opened to a very tired and grumpy looking Alfred.
  "Miss Cain, whatever is the matter? you seem awfully distraught."
  "Please Alfred, where's Bruce? Jason's in trouble he's trying to go after the Joker alone and I-" Cassandra was cutoff by the sound of a motorcycle taking off the way she had come. She and Alfred only barely caught the silhouette of Batman on his way to help his reckless sidekick.
  "Please Miss Cain come inside, Master Wayne may need us to help him in the bat cave and rest assured you will be safe there until he can retrieve Master Todd." Cassandra nodded and followed Alfred inside and into the bat cave. all the while praying that Batman could make it to Jason in time...

  Batman raced in and out of alleys desperately trying to make it to Jason before he did anything foolish. He had a tracker installed in the Robin suit in case anything like this happened. He wanted to be angry with his side kick. Jason was always so reckless and never thought before he acted, so unlike the previous Robin, Dick Grayson. However all batman could feel was worried for his current Robin. Going against the Riddler alone was one thing. The joker was entirely different. The joker would not hesitate to blow Jason's brains out if it amused him...

  "AGH! UGH! OOF! MMF!" Jason moaned and groaned hit after hit.
  "Oh I'm sorry little Birdy did that hurt?" the Joker said. He laughed viciously before swinging the crowbar down on Jason's already injured body. He hit him square in the jaw, blood began spewing out of the young man's mouth. Jason's wrists were handcuffed behind him and he struggled to turn and lay on his back. His breathing was heavy and painful. He mumbled something under his breath.
  "Sorry bird boy didn't quite catch that I think I might have made a lung collapse there, come again?" he said his voice patronizing as he leaned down his face right next to Jason's.
"I said fuck you." he then spit blood on to the Jokers pale face. the joker kicked him in the ribs
  "How rude. The last Robin certainly had better manners than you. maybe I should teach you a lesson so you can better follow in his footsteps." the Joker made a face as if contemplating this option.
  "nah, I'm just gonna keep hitting you with this crowbar." he said as he continued to beat Batman's partner...
  There Jason lay, his body writhing in pain. He hardly had the strength to breathe.

  "well I'd love to stay and chat but I've got a city to ruin. oh! you'll be happy to know that the school didn't actually have any children in it, I just knew a softie like you wouldn't be able to resist the chance to come after me if you thought I'd blown up a bunch of kiddos. looks like the jokes on you! haha!! say hello to the big man for me won't you bird boy? HAHAHAHAHAHAHA" said the Joker before exiting the abandoned warehouse.
  Once Jason was sure the Joker was gone he tried to get up. His entire body felt like it was on fire. He could hardly stand tho he managed to bring his arms back in front of him. He then dragged himself to the door reaching up only to find it was locked. He groaned and slid back down. There has to be a way out of here, Jason thought. suddenly he noticed a soft beeping sound. he turned his head in its direction only to find a ticking timer. it had 5 seconds left. Jason's shoulders sagged in defeat. 3...2...1...

  Batman jumped off his bike and ran toward the building the tracker had lead him to.
but before Batman got anywhere near it the building exploded. He automatically covered himself with his cape to protect himself. Once the debris settled it dawned on him what had just happened.
"ROBIN!!" he screamed into the cold night. 

  Back at the batcave Alfred and Cassandra watched in silent horror as they witnessed through the camera on Batman's mask what had just unfolded in front of him. Cassandra began shaking her head.
"No."
Alfred teared his horrified gaze away from the screen to look back at Cassandra.
  "Miss Cain...I'm so-"
  "NO! No no no no! Alfred please." Cassandra's knees buckled and fell to a heap on the floor as tears burst from her eyes.
  Alfred tried to console her but he too was in pain. He had watched Jason grow up, and now...
  Batman desperately rummaged through the pile looking for any sign of Jason. He found him underneath a slab of concrete, his body crushed. Bruce tentatively picked up Jason's broken body and hugged it to his chest.
  "Jason" he whispered as he cried for the second time in his life over the body of his fallen soldier...his son...his poor Jason Todd...
