Qrow collapsed on the couch in the small room, laughing drunkenly to himself
"I found him... I found him." He repeated over and over again. Suddenly a girl came charging out of a room, yelling:
"WHAT IS GOING ON OUT HERE? CAN'T A GIRL READ HER COMICS IN PEACE?" Oscar caught his breath. The girl was beautiful with short dark hair waving a little in frustration. She looked no older than 16. Then she laid eyes on her uncle. She slapped a hand to her forehead and let out a sigh.
"Qrow, did you get drunk again?" She asked.
"Maayybe," he replied tipsily. Suddenly, Ozpin spoke inside Oscar's head.
"Look at her eyes." Oscar did and he gasped, for her eyes were a deep, true silver. Oscar had read about silver-eyed warriors in books, it was said that they wielded incredible powers.
"You have silver eyes." He breathed.
All 4 older kids in the room turned to look at him.
"Who are you?" Asked the girl who he now knew to be Ruby Rose. He hesitated.
"Tell her the truth," said Ozpin, "All of it."
"Well," Oscar said, "My name is Oscar Pine."
"Wait for it." Qrow interrupted quietly.
"You probably know me as... Professor Ozpin." He finished. There was a moment of stunned silence. And then Qrow gave another drunken laugh.
"I did it!" He yelled and then he fell right off the couch. It broke the tension.
"You're who?" Ruby asked, still looking dumbstruck, not even sparing a glance for her uncle on the floor. Oscar sighed in relief, they were taking this so much better than he had expected them to. So he explained everything. By the end of it, Ruby was actually smiling.
"Well," she said, extending her hand to him, "Oscar was it?... Welcome to team RNGR."
"I still think it should be JNRR." Said the red-headed girl who looked like she could break his legs like twigs, but nobody paid her any attention. Oscar took Ruby's hand and shook it. It was small, soft and warm, but her grip was strong. Oscar could tell that she was no delicate flower, she was a rose with thorns. Then for the first time she seemed to notice her uncle on the ground. A grin spread across her face.
"Sorry about him," she apologized," he isn't always like this. Would you mind helping me move him?"
"No that's fine." Said Oscar, happy to help her. Each of them took one of Qrow's arms over their shoulders and half carried, half dragged Qrow into his room and laid him down on the bed where he snored. Ruby sighed and then yawned and stretched. For the first time he caught a whiff of her scent. As a farm boy, he was used to stink and farm smells, so Ruby's scent was something new to him. She smelled like the most beautiful of flowers. It intoxicated him, and he sniffed greedily, feeling a rush of bliss as the smell entered his nostrils. Ruby had finished yawning and was now looking at him, and because he didn't want her to think he was staring, he looked away, blushing slightly.
"Well," she said and he looked up at her, "We should get some sleep, it is pretty late."
"Yeah... I guess it is." Oscar responded quietly.
"Good night then," she said, walking through the door. Oscar watched her back as she walked away. His teenage mind was already starting to create some very private thoughts about her. However, nothing in his head was private anymore.
"Oscar," said Ozpin's voice inside his head and Oscar could tell that if he had had a body, his face would have been bright red.
"Can you please stop that." Oscar's face went red too. He had been so preoccupied with Ruby that he had completely forgotten that Ozpin was there, in his mind.
"Oh, yeah... Sorry," he said. But even still, he knew that from this day forward he loved Ruby Rose and nothing would ever change that.
