So this is the beginning where Mara is first discovered by the director. See how she changes throughout the story.
The lights dim, the audience quiets and I know it's my turn up on stage. For a moment my knees seem locked but then Timothy Anosthon nuges me from behind. "Go on" He says. " Its your turn. Besides, you know there is a director out in the audience." My second grader mind was young to comprehend this, but it managed. If I did well enough, my whole life could change.
Forcing a smile I said "yeah, yeah, I know. I'm going." As soon as I turned the smile was gone though and I walked out onto the stage. Immediately the bright spotlot found my face and my cheeks seemed to burn. Stepping intricately across the stage, I bumped into the person dresses in the sparkly green dance outfit. Her name is Ashley Winters.
I pretend to be embarrassed, ducking my head. "Excuse me please." I try to slip by her but she blocks me me.
By the end of the play, we are friends and the audience is cheering.
A formal looking woman is cheering as well but is staring intently at me. I gulp. Quietly I step around the other kids and hurry off stage.
Guess she was a good actor huh? Maybe she's going to get chosen.
