The music was pumping, bodies wriggling and writhing. It was loud, a combination of drunks and beats. It was chilly, wind blowing towards those who weren't smart enough to hide behind shelter. Then there was her. Pulling me towards the dance floor, between the warm bodies and the cold winter wind. A smile on her face that drew me in, the closeness of everyone else pushing me away. It was too much. I left the room, to catch some air and sit around the small fire with those smart enough to stay warm. She followed me out. She sat with me, staring at the fire. Her body against mine, sitting with the warmth of each other and the fire in front of us. Her scent filled my nose and at that moment I knew that I didn't want the night to end.
Her embrace kept me warm when we stood, standing in the wind away from the fire and the sweaty bodies near the pulsing speakers chanting along to their favourite songs. It was just me and her. I pulled her into me, her warmth radiating, a welcoming sensation as the biting wind rushed past our two bodies. Her head against my chest as she tried to warm her face just beyond the pounding of my beating heart. She looked up at me and I looked down, her nose red and eyes as bright as the stars above. One glance at my lips is all it took. We shared a kiss, our first. Warmth spread through my body, the world around dimmed. It was just her and I. She pulled back, breathing heavily. Our misted breaths formed into one as they rose into the night sky swirling and twirling until we could see it no more.
We stood there for longer, just holding her, her holding me. The cold not a problem anymore, the warmth shared between us keeping us safe. My head rested on top of hers, thinking about the kiss we had just shared. I looked at her, she was thinking about it too. Her bottom lip between her teeth as she looked back at me. Blush shaded her cheeks as we stood there together. I touched her face and she nuzzled into my hand. No words spoken but a million shared.
