Remember

Base

I walked into the office and went up to desk, to set down my bag . " Hello ma'am, I'm Nichole Oaken," I said to the woman behind the desk. "yes are you hear to sign in,"Asked the woman. " yes ma'am I am " 

 " do you have your papers with you?", The name tag said Major Knight, I said yes and pulled out my papers.

I put them on the table and slid them across towards the officer. She took them and put them in a file, " I'll call a sergeant (Sgt) to come get you. You'll be in Alpha company,  with 2nd lieutenant (2LT) Dean Taylor as your commanding officer."

  " yes ma'am,". I sat down in one of the chars they had and waited for the sergeant to come get me. I hoped like hell it was a woman.

But of course, with my luck, it was not. It was a young guy with light almost bleach blond hair, he was very good looking. I guess,  He glanced at me but went right up to the desk " good morning Major (Maj)  Knight, " he said. " good morning Sgt Roth," she replied, " i'm here to pick up a newbie am I," said Sgt Roth. I stood up in anger at his words but, I didn't say anything, I must have made a noise of some sort though.

He turned around trying not to laugh at me, I looked him right in the face and didn't say anything. I turned to the Maj, " Major I understand that this is the sergeant that I will be going with,".

 "Yes corporal it is, you will be staying in the barracks with him, as well as one other woman, and the rest of the company" she said.

 " Yes, ma'am, "I said turning back to Sgt Roth. " OK let's go, " he said, I didn't say anything just followed out onto the base. It was a nice base not unlike the others I'd been to, but there were more people out about talking and training. The flag was up and waving in the wind that was just barely there.

"well what's your name corporal?" he asked, I looked at him supersized that he was talking to me. " Um ... Oaken. Nichole Oaken," he laughed

 " what," I said exasperatedly " why are you laughing at me,"
"why? because Dean is going to love you but then again I think we all will ". I was taken aback by that " what do you mean?" I asked. " well," he said "your headstrong but you know not to talk back, or you just didn't talk to me because you were intimidated by my good looks," laughing.

" oh bullshit, you just weren't that important, your just the guide." I said trying to get under his skin,  Unsuccessfully I might add. He laughed again. Still walking at a brisk pace, after another 2 or 3 minutes of walking we got to the barracks, They were cream colour with a little bit of white. To get inside we had to go up a flight of stairs. Roth opened the door and held it open for me. I went inside thanking him. I was greeted with some strange looks, as I was lead to a different room where I was greeted with a squeal of excitement. A girl of about 25 years old or so jumped off her bed to greet me. "Roth your not needed here anymore" she said barely able to stand still. He patted me on the shoulder, with of look that said: "have fun and good luck."
 "Don't mind him said the girl." I nodded, " oh don't worry I won't," she led me to one of the beds. " this is yours, just make sure you keep it clean and as much like mine as possible, although you can put your own stuff on the window sill and whatever". 

 " OK thanks," 

 " oh no worries, by the way, my name is Jennifer Chase, I'm a  corporal as well". The one thing that I knew for sure was that she talked a lot, but other than that I liked her. Over the next few days, Jennifer and I walked around the base getting to know each other.

When we weren't training with the guys. As well as other people from other parts of the base and all over the world. We hung out at the canteen. One night after dinner, which contained mashed potatoes and roast beef with some sauce that was probably three weeks old if that. Jennifer and I walked to the canteen. which is basically a community building that all of the trainees go to hang out and eat junk, theirs usually a movie playing in one of the other buildings as well, as a game room in the back where you can find the gamer's or the board people that are not in there barracks. The canteen is also a place to find horny guys that want to go find a place to hide with a girl. usually, they go to an empty barrack and then sneak out the girls after. That is Where Dean saved Jennifer and I the first time. This guy started hitting on me and Jennifer tried to help but got held back by one of his friends while he tried to seduce me into going with him. when Dean walked in and saw us, at first I thought he was just helping us because we were the only girls in his platoon and it would be on him if we got hurt outside of training.I learned later that it wasn't  just that but we will get to that later.

Deans POV

       Dean was a military brat. His father was in Korea and the Kosovo War as well as being stationed in Afghanistan for a little over a year. His mom wasn't faithful to his dad and after he came home from Afghanistan and found out, Dean had to go through the divorce and the decision of who to live with after the divorce was final. Dean was 15 years old when he went to go live with his dad. His dad had PTSD from being in the front lines in Afghan and Korea. So living with him wasn't easy considering that he was still moving around and at the base a lot. Deans mother got into drugs after Dean left and ended up overdosing on the side of the road in the middle of no were. After his mom died dean joined the military and has worked his way up the ranks ever since. " ok people lets go " I said to my platoon of 28 guys and 2 girls. Nicole was the newest recruited and with her size, I didn't think she could to all of the things that were mandatory for her. But so far she seemed to be able to pull it off. With remembrance day just a week away we were mostly on the parade square doing drill which is boring and tiring as well as hard on the body. So today we were doing some field stuff as well as playing some football or soccer or something like that we also might go over to the range and do some rifle practice.
