If What You Know is Who You Are then [He's] Everything

            The afternoon continued and so did us getting the cows ready for the evening. Gene focused all of his attention on getting them in top form...until someone broke his focus again.

            "What the fuck?!" He exclaimed staring at them.

            "I'll handle this!" I assured before trotting off in their direction.

            "Howdy." I greeted them.

            "Alright." Liam replied with a nod as he reached to give me a hug.

            I could tell he wanted to stay latched onto me but I pushed him away because there wasn't time. "Wait here." I instructed pointing at the ground where they stood.

            "But we just got here!" Noel pointed out. "And I'm not about to-"

            "Just do as I say, Noel." I sighed before taking back off to the barn.

            Gene was on the ground now cleaning up the heifer's hooves.

            "Gene?" I said looking down at him.

            No response.

            "Gene?"

            Again, he just stayed silent while he picked at the heifer's foot.

            I rolled my eyes. "Gene. Get your ass up or I'll find a pair of clippers and put a nice divot in the base of her tail head!" I snapped pointing at the cow.

            He stopped what he was doing then. He knew damn well I meant business and a fucked up topline would not look good in the show ring. He stood up and stared me right in the eyes.

            "Let's go!" I ordered pointing in the direction away from the barn.

            He didn't argue. He followed right along clearly wanting to avoid embarrassing himself in front of his friends.

            "Send them the fuck off!" He barked as soon as we were out of everyone's ear shot.

            "You know darn well that ain't gonna happen!" I barked back.

            He shook his head. "You-"

            "If you wanna talk about asshole fathers, we'll be here all day!" I sounded slightly Manc on the last word. "Mine was a drunk! Maybe not a textbook drunk but he's still the reason why I don't go out of my way to drink! And even after all that shit, he changed his ways 'cuz he loves me and my sister even though he can be a real ass!"

            He sighed. "Jules-"

            "And your father is the same damn way!" I cut him off. "And he's come all this way because he loves you!"

            "Alright!" He screamed. "Just don't let him be so fuckin' weird, yeah?"

            Gene went back to tend the cattle while I went and fetched Liam and Noel. Noel gazed around at the various types of bovine lined up on either side of us while Liam just focused on walking forward.

            There were still a couple hours before the show. The wash racks were full of cattle getting hosed down and washed up. Then blow dried and fluffed up to show off how good they looked.

            Gene glared at us as we made our way up to where he stood with Courtney and Tyler beside the next cow in the chute.

            "Alright?" Liam said to him with a nod.
