When I was two years old, my parents got a divorce. We mostly stayed with my mom and saw my dad once or twice a month. I became really close to Grayson because he was the only constant in my life. Once I was 5, we stopped going to see my dad. We lost connection with him. I forgot what he looked like or sounded like. The only thing I remember was what he said to me every time I saw him, "You will always be my little girl." If only that were true.

Grayson was there for me when my mom wasn't. When I was 12, my mom started drinking more and more. It got hard to understand her through all the slurred words. Grayson and I tried to stop her and tell her that she was ruining her life, but she never listened. We tried to save her but couldn't. Maybe she didn't want to be saved. It got to the point where we were scared to be around her but most of all, we were scared for her.

One night, when I was 14, my friend, Skye, invited me to her house. At 3 a.m., I got a call from my brother. I almost ignored the call but figured it was important if it was that late. Skye woke up. As soon as Grayson started to talk, I could tell that something was very wrong. He said he was coming to get me through tears and heavy breathing. I packed up my things and told Skye I was sorry.

"Don't worry about it Pey," She started, "just let me know what's going on."

"I will.Bye!" I told her as Grayson's car pulled up.

His face was red and covered in tears.  I panicked.

"Gray, what's going on?" No response. Just tears. "Gray! What the hell happened?" My eyes started to fill with tears.

"I got a call from the hospital. They took mom there from the scene of a car crash."

"Is she going to be alright?" I ask.

"I'm not sure Pey." He sighed. "They just said that we should get there as soon as we can.
