Taylor's POV:
Why does Swimming start so early? Couldn't it be, I don't know, an hour later? I think 4.00 a.m. is a bit much. I might file an official complaint to my Sister, not that she'll listen. She's the school Swimming coach, in case you're wondering. Changing from my white teeshirt and dark-wash jeans into a faded, old, pale-blue swimming costume with a single white stripe running down from my armpit to my torso. Stepping out of the room of peeling wallpaper and smell of feet, I slung my bag over my shoulder. The only person in sight was my sister, also known as a living, breathing nightmare with a crisp ponytail (it's really eerie how every single hair was contained in that pink elastic), black waterproof clipboard and a piercing whistle in obnoxious red hung around her neck. The rest of the team soon shuffled into the grey, miserable pool deck, sitting down on the hard, concrete floor.
"Alright gang, I know it's early," she started. No shit Sherlock. "But I don't want anyone complaining. Any body who groans has to come earlier still, about 3.15 a.m.!" She threatened. Everyone immediately stopped mumbling. My friend Stephen visibly stiffened behind me. My sister was true to her threats. Once, when we were younger, she called the county police because I took her over-organised pencil case from her electric-blue backpack to borrow some scissors. Everyone here had experienced her wrath, without meaning to ever again.
"Alright Eagles!" She bellowed. The Eagles is our team name. Elegant, graceful, yet predator of many. "We have a competition heading our way! We need to work harder! Let's do it!" She yelled, pumping her fists. It seemed like she was the only enthusiastic person here. "Sure," the team droned. They shuffled towards the over-chlorinated pool, taking their places in respective lanes. I scooted over to Lane 1. Without hesitation, looking at the clear, blue water, I strapped my black Swimming cap over my head and snapped on my grey goggles. Holding my hands over my head in a delicate arc, I plunged into the ice-cold water, breaking through the shimmering surface and creating ripples in the once still water. An arm's movement, two legs pushing against the water, propelling the object forward. Kick, kick, kick. Exhaustion settling in now. Kick, kick, kick, kick, ohmygodthat'sawallturn, kick, kick. I crashed into the tiled wall, seconds before Stephen. I slowly breathed in and out, sinking into the peaceful water. Bubbles trailing out of my mouth, I closed my eyes, almost meditating. This was my relaxation, the calming water washing over me. The last person of Lane 1 swam towards us, interrupting my... thing. I pushed myself out of the water, soaking everything from tiles to my fellow teammates. Pulling my swim cap off of my damp, auburn hair and slinging my bag over my shoulder. Changing, drying our hair, walking out. That's what we do Everyday. And smell like chlorine during school hours.
