Vitex lay on his sand bed, watching the rattlesnakes slither by as the sun rose on the horizon. This view calmed him, it always did. It was beautiful. He let out a soft sigh as he relaxed after a long day.

The memories of that day were still fresh in his mind...

He had left his parents. He didn't believe what they had believed in. All tribes should be equal. Those were his beliefs. His parents really didn't like Rainwings... Nor Nightwings... What would they think if they found out that his best friend was a Nightwing? He couldn't stand the thought. Awkwardly shuffling, he noticed the sudden shift in the sand around him. Instinctively, he leaped up and glanced around. Don't move a muscle... Vitex thought. He was talking to the moving object in his own mind. Because of his thoughts, he began mumbling to himself. He was plotting all of the horrible things that he could do to the prey, or worse, to the dragon. As he sniffed the air, he raised his head and lightly closed his eyes. He was concentrating. There was nothing else going on in his mind. He was concentrating.

Suddenly, something jumped out at him - causing him to impulsively leap back.

"Who's there!?" Vitex called, his harsh Sandwing accent draining any surprise that was in his voice. He only sounded rough and violent... What his parents wanted him to be.

Out of the blue, Vitex was pulled down to the ground. This sudden action caused him to yelp slightly, his pointed tail flicking quickly.

His mind and thoughts were so jumbled that he couldn't even stop to think about the slight chuckling.

"BOO!" a dark silhouette leaped out at him, towering over him. Their wings were dotted with silver spots, making it look like the night sky. It was a Nightwing.

"Q-Quasar?!" Vitex spluttered, shaking his head in confusion. What was going on?

Quasarwalker laughed loudly."Just came to say hello!" he waved his talon in a taunting way and tilted his head to one side slightly."What are you doing out here, Vitex?" the Nightwing's voice was calm and soft, yet loud and terrifying at the same time.

"No reason," the Sandwing let out a rough sigh as he looked his friend in the eye.

"Pretty sure that there is a reason," Quasarwalker sat next to Vitex."Where are your parents?"

Not knowing what to respond with, Vitex shrugged and dug his snout into his talons. He felt Quasarwalker gently rub their wings together.

"Hey..." he rested his head on the sand next to Vitex and Vitex glanced at him with his pure white irises."You can be honest with me, man-"

"I ran," Vitex mumbled simply."I don't wanna see them."

"Oh," Quasarwalker sighed and twined their tails together."I get it... You fell out?"

As a response, Vitex nodded. He didn't really want to say anything.

"Right," Quasarwalker sighed, nodding in understanding.

There was a long awkward silence following.

"Where are you gonna go?"Quasarwalker asked, breaking the silence.

"I have a couple of plans," Vitex said, sitting up slightly as the sun began to beat down on to them."Like, I dunno, proving my parents wrong?"

"And how are you going to do that?" Quasarwalker smirked, standing up eventually.

"Well," Vitex huffed, looking up at the towering purple Nightwing."They said that all tribes can't get along. I wanna make a little group!"

"Hah," Quasarwalker snorted."Your parents are living in the past. The war's over now. The Dragonets of Destiny-"

"They HATE the Dragonets," Vitex piped in, raising a talon."But- If I, their son, can befriend a dragon from each tribe and bring them all to my parents, I can prove them wrong! And they'll love me again! It's foolproof!"

"I see so many flaws in that plan, it's unreal," Quasarwalker rolled his eyes.

"Like what?" Vitex pouted, flicking his tail against the sand.

"First issue: Skywings." Quasarwalker stated."They're horrible. All of them. Not ONE Skywing would want to help you."

"That's just a stereotype," Vitex shrugged.

"Right," Quasarwalker rolled his eyes once again."And, I am pretty sure that your parents would hate your claws if you brought a Rainwing into their house."

"Whatever," Vitex mumbled, looking down."I still wanna get some more friends. Other than you."

That could have come out better... Vitex thought, wincing slightly.

Quasarwalker's jaw dropped. "What's so bad about me?!"

"Nothing!" Vitex said quickly."You're fine! It's just, like, you're my ONLY friend-"

"And?" Quasarwalker raised his chin stubbornly."I'm a great friend!"

"Well, yeah," Vitex stammered. That's debatable..."It's just... Pretty sad that you're my ONLY friend. I need friends other than you, y'know?! And you must feel the same way, wouldn't you?"

Quasarwalker let out a hearty sigh and mumbled:"I guess you're right..." he raised his snout once again."That still doesn't sort out the Skywing problem, though... AND that Icewings hate Nightwings' claws- It just won't work, bro."

"It WILL!" Vitex leaped up slightly, before sitting down again out of embarrassment."It'll be great, Quasar! Just you see! We'll be BETTER than the Dragonets of Destiny!"

Quasarwalker snorted.

"How?"

"Ah-" Vitex was already lost for words."Well! We'll have an Icewing! And a Skywing! And an ACTUAL Sandwing!"

"That's pretty offensive towards Sunny..." Quasarwalker mumbled.

"Whatever!" Vitex shrugged."Today's the day, isn't it?"

"The day for what?"

"Well, we start! It's the day that we started!"

"Since when were you so optimistic and outgoing?"

Vitex groaned as Quasarwalker said that.

"There we go!" Quasarwalker mocked as he grinned and showed off his crystal white teeth."That's what I like to hear from you, Vitex. It means you're not going insane."

"Shut up," Vitex hissed."Let's just go."

Vitex began trailing away through the Kingdom of Sand. He had no idea where he was going. But anywhere would work for him. He was off to make friends!

"ARGH!" he screamed.

Quickly, he spun around to see Quasarwalker standing with a mischievous sneer on his bulky face. That purple-scaled newt! Why did he have to step on MY tail?!

"What do you want?" Vitex spat, yanking his tail away from his "best friend".

"Well, for starters," Quasarwalker stepped to Vitex's side."It was a joke. Don't take it too personally, man. Secondly, where in Pyrrhia are we going?! THIRDLY, where are we going to get food?"

Vitex groaned."We're dragons."
"And?"

"We get food ourselves."

"Ah," Quasarwalker nodded."I knew that."

The two began to walk, side by side, wing by wing, through the sands. Did Quasarwalker care that he didn't know where he was going? Probably. Yet, he wasn't going to say anything. Vitex eventually found himself already forgiving Quasarwalker for that little trick.

A small smile spread across his narrow face.

They were going on a journey.

Vitex and Quasarwalker.

Him and his best friend.
