Lucas' POV
It was a dark and stormy night, I was alone; utterly alone, or so I thought...
No no, that's not how it started, let me think... How did it really begin.. Ah I remember now.
It was no stormy night, in fact, it was actually a pretty sunny day. I was just getting out of school. I said my goodbyes to my so-called friends and started on my trek home.
It stayed pretty normal if you ask me, same flower shop owner waving to me as I passed by. Same cemetery that seems to get bigger every day. Same construction. Same roads. Same people.
Everything is always the same, that's not what I want, I want a change. A change in my life, for better or for worse.
There's a small coffee shop about two blocks from my apartment complex so I decide to stop there on my way home. I usually stop there on Fridays, that's always stayed the same too.
I know the at least one of the workers well, he played football with my older brother before both of them went off to collage. Now he works here while also struggling with school.
We only make small conversation though, we never had very many things in common, except for my brother. It may sound odd but they went out for a couple months. Just before they got together my brother realized that he was attracted to guys, and of course he told me because we were always really close.
I got to the coffee shop and just in time I think, it started raining as soon as I walked in. I walk up to the counter and look around for Leo (that's the guys name) but he's not here. Weird.
There's a new guy at the counter, "hello, can I take your order" he says.
"Uh yeah, I'll have a vanilla frapé please. Oh and where's Leo? He's usually here at this time" I questioned, I really was curious.
The reaction I got in return wasn't what I expected, he seemed almost frightened. "O-oh... Um well there's been tons of missing person reports.. He uh... He just disappeared, without a single trace, sometime last week. Police are still trying to figure out what happened to him, and there trying to find witnesses."
By the time he was done with that sentence I had a similar expression to the one he had. "Oh my god... That's terrible. Do you know like... When he disappeared exactly?"
He had already given the ticket with my order on it to someone else so they could make it while we chatted. "I think it was last Friday or Saturday? Why? Did you see him sometime around then?"
I nod hesitantly, "I came here last Friday, I see him every week, this is the first time he hasn't been here.. I talked to him a bit but I don't remember him saying anything about running away.."
Right as he was about to say something else, the other girl at the end of the counter called out my order. I walk over to get my coffee and look back at the man. "Let's hope for the best, my names Lucas by the way."
"Yeah, okay. I'm Scott" he calls out before I leave the shop and continue on my journey home.
______________
I lay in my bed staring at the ceiling, nothing ever goes on here, why suddenly now there's a missing person report? And why did it have to be someone I was so close to...
I look at the window when I notice that it's almost dark, my mum has night shifts and my father is on a business trip so I'm in our small apartment alone.
I do have siblings, but I'm younger than the youngest one by five years, so they've all moved out.
I'm alone quite a lot here, my mother works at night so when I get home from school she's most of the time already gone. She's a bartender, and on the weekends she's always trying to pick up extra shifts, I'm starting to think she just doesn't want to be around me alone.
My dad is a business man and is always gone on trips, I wish I could see him more but what can I say, bills have to be paid one way or another.
I really don't have many friends, well none that I really consider hanging out with. Even if I did, they're probably off somewhere getting stoned or laid; or both...
But I'm not complaining, I enjoy alone time, I can act like myself without anyone judging me or telling that what I do isn't manly.
What is it I do when I'm alone, you ask? Well... I play with my Pinky And Chatty action figures while watching Pinky And Chatty and stuffing my face with cheese puffs.
Pinky and Chatty is a action filled show where two chihuahuas fight evil cats by night and keep their owners company by day! It really is an awesome show!
I'm always asking my parents if I can get at least one chihuahua if not two someday but my father is allergic to dogs...
I get snapped out from my day dream of finally having two chihuahuas, when the door bell rings. My pizza must finally be here!
I grab my wallet and run to the front door. I crack the door just enough to get the pizza in because I don't want anyone else seeing the epic fort I've made in the living room out of our couch cushions and chairs. I pay the guy, bring my pizza into the living room, grab a soda from the refrigerator and plop down in my fort.
Do I have everything?
Action figures, set up and ready to go, check!
Multiple soda cans set out in a bucket of ice, check!
Pizza set out on the coffee table, check!
Netflix ready with my show about to play, check!
Now all I have to do is press play. I grab the remote and press the 'Enter' button and the theme song turns on, which I happily sing along to.
"Pinky and Chatty ready to go!
Hurry up before humans get home!"
Ill spare you the rest, I do have to admit, it's not the best opening song...
I curl up in my pile of blankets and open one can of soda, I take a sip then set it down and pick up some pizza.
Oh, how I love being alone.
______________
I fell asleep after watching 15, 30 minute episodes of P&C, and I was (rudely) awaken by my mum walking into the house at 3 a.m. After she got off work.
"I told you to stop tearing apart the living room to watch your stupid cartoons! Why can't you be like other boys your age Lucas? Go out, hang out with friends, play a sport!" She does this every morning.
"Be like other boys my age you say? Then why don't I just go get a couple girls pregnant and go to a party where I'll get drunk and stoned. Is that what your saying mother? Because I could totally go do that right now!" I do admit, I am very sassy with my mother and I often have a huge attitude whenever I talk to her.
"Don't you talk back to me young man! Now pick up this mess and go to bed, in your room!"
Ugh, she's so annoying, no wonder my dad's always gone, I would be too if I could be. "Fine, whatever!" She walks down the hall to her room after that.
I get up and throw my trash away, there's no more pizza so I throw away the box, I dump out the bucket of now just water, and I start folding up the blankets and putting the cushions back on the couch.
I take a look at the room and decide that it's clean enough for now. I walk down the hallway and into my room then close the door behind me. I do live on the top floor of a 23 story apartment building but I don't have a window, which sucks. Sometimes I sneak into my mums room and look at the sunset over the city, it's very nice.
I flop down on my bed but don't fall asleep, I'm awake now and I'm not going to be able to get back to sleep, thankfully there's no school tomorrow so I don't have to get up again in the next 2 hours.
I sit up in my bed and pull out my sketch book from my bed-side-shelf. I might as well draw if I can't sleep. I open up the book and grab a pen, it's the same pen I always draw with, I don't like pencils as much. I set my pen on the paper when...
Bang!
There's a huge thump on the roof right above my room... What the heck?
