"Quickly Jade....get to safety" her brother yelled at her while standing his ground against the four large wolves that stood in front of them. Of course they couldn't hear him, since he was screaming at her using mind-link. "Let me help fight" she cried back at him. A low growl came from his throat and she knew that it was intended for her. "no." he stated with a voice of authority. His large dark brown wolf stood in front of her smaller light gray one. She wanted to argue with him, to stay and continue to fight beside her brother. But she knew that the people in the tunnels need her. Just as she backed out of the room she whispered through mindlink- "I love you Jacob." "love you too sis" he replied and without any further warning the four wolves that were once in the doorway lunged.

"Alpha Jade!" a small voice called out bringing her back to the present day. She raised her green eyes to see Sam, one of the children in her pack running toward her. "What is it Sam?" she greeted him by lowering her 5' 7'' frame to his eye level. "It's time. Mom sent me to come get you when you didn't answer when she called." She shook the lingering memories of that horrible night out of her mind and took the small child's hand.

They quickly rounded the corner of the building to the large clearing.. Around sixty wolves had gathered for their all pack meeting. Jade took a steading breathe and tousled Sam's dark hair before taking her place in front of everyone. "Thank you for coming" her voice boomed with authority. "Northern Star pack, today marks the two year anniversary of the battle that claimed over one hundred of our fellow pack members' lives, including my brother, your late alpha." Jade took a quick breathe to settle herself. "Today, we honor the memory of those who lost their lives." Sam's mom, Suzie, handed her a glass filled with red wine. Jade lifted the glass in her hand as the wolves around her raised theirs with cheers and tears.

The yearly gathering to honor the fallen had just come to an end, when the sound of branches breaking in the distance drew the attention of the pack. Quickly, all of the pack shifted and awaited Jade's orders. Jade sprinted to the front already growling at whatever may be awaiting them. Within the trees, there were yellow eyes and the sound of growls. Without a second thought, the pack followed their female alpha into the woods.

About an hour later, Jade shifted back into her human form, and tossed on one of the many shirts hanging in branches near the pack houses. She nodded at Megan, her Beta, and Charlie, her third in command, who were dragging one of the rouges to the detention area. They had killed the other five with him, but kept this one alive for questioning. It was moments like this that she was grateful that her father had insisted on her completing alpha training despite being female. Her brother was six years younger than her, so in the beginning, she had been treated as the solo heir to their pack. When Jacob came along, her father continued her training, telling anyone who dared to question it that she had alpha blood in her as well. When their father had passed the title to Jacob on his eighteenth birthday, she had been the proud sister standing beside him. A year later, they both would die in the battle that completely changed her life. She had intended on staying for Jacob's first year or so of leadership, just to be there for support. But being 24 and still not having found her mate, she had planned to leave and travel in hopes of figuring out her own future. Funny how fate had other plans. Now she found herself as the only female alpha in this region of the world. There were others in other parts, but it was unheard of in her area. She had expected it to be hard at first to lead given the grief that filled her, but when she had reached the safe house underground, she didn't hesitate to take control. She had heard them kill him. She knew the only way to honor her father and her brother would be to step up as the leader they believed her to be. It helped that only females and children had survived the battle. No one questioned her leadership as a female. They had stayed in the bunker until Alpha Blake from the Blue Mountain pack had sent help. It took another six months to train and rebuild and try to claim any sort of normal pack life again. As younger she-wolves found their mates, slowly their male population had increased some over the past two years. But with the help of Jade's leadership and Blake's support, the Northern Star Pack had finally began to bounce back and Jade would be damned if she was going to let anyone harm her pack again.

Within two days after the anniversary of the battle and the rouge attack, Jade still didn't have any answers from the jackass in her detention center. She slammed a silver blade into his forearm and growled at him. He had laughed. Laughed! What sick twisted kind of wolf was this! Jade couldn't help the swift punch to his face that he received next. "What do you mean you were waiting for me? I won't ask again." She growled. He spit blood onto the ground and rattled his silver chains around his wrists and ankles. "I knew when your Beta didn't get the answers, you would come." He smirked. She wanted to punch the smirk right off his face, but resisted since he was finally talking. "And what do you have to say to me rouge" she spit back at him. "When we don't return, they will know you have grown stronger, and they will come better prepared. Nothing you can do will stop them." "Who is they?" she asked her eyes narrowing at him. Again, he laughed. "Why, the same ones who killed the rest of you, they are going to finish the job." With that, she lost control and shoved the silver blade straight through his heart.
