I pleaded as she dragged me along. I didn't know where she was taking me, but I was scared out of my mind. I twisted and pulled, but nothing seemed to work. All I knew was that somehow I had killed my best friend by touching him and now I was being dragged somewhere. Attempting to ask where I was being brought didn't do much help, as the woman just continued to pull me along until we got to a boat.
I willingly stepped onto the boat, knowing that if I didn't, I would be pushed into the water. My hands were tied up so there would be nothing that I could do to stop myself from drowning. My pulling and tugging was doing nothing except hurting me, so I stopped. The woman looked relieved, which made me feel happy knowing that my tugging was actually doing something.
The closer we get to our destination, I start to hear crying. Even though I shouldn't, I feel happy that I'm not alone in this. Another person must be like me, I can't be the only one.
We get off the boat and I'm thrown into a trunk. I see other people, mostly girls, and I become more curious. Why would someone want a bunch of teenagers? Especially ones like me? The others were talking about how their "powers" seemed to not be working on the people who took us here, which only seemed to confuse me more.
"Recruits," a voice called out. "You are all here because you each have a unique power that many do not possess. You can all heal and kill someone with your powers. Each of you are able to do both, but most of you are just now hearing about this. You are here for either killing someone or healing someone. Danger lies ahead for you, but I can guarantee that you will be much safer here then you would be anywhere else."
We are brought inside of a manor and separated into groups to be placed into rooms. We are told that the people that we are rooming with have similar powers to us, so that must mean that I'm not the only one who can kill people by touching them.
When we stop at room number 27. The voice from before sternly informs me that this is my room along with another girl who has long blonde hair and big blue eyes. She weakly smiles at me, then we enter our room. There are two beds with black and white bedding separated by two white nightstands with mint green lamps on each. As I look around the room, I notice that it is small and the beds have only has about a ten foot distance between them. I peer into the bathroom and see that it only contains a shower, a sink and a toilet.
My roommate shuts the door behind her and chooses the bed to the right. This leaves me as the current resident of the bed to the left. When I sit on it a musty smell arises and the taste is unbearable. I can feel the grit on my teeth and my frown deepens. I look to the floor and see a fuzzy white carpet below my feet. I slide off my shoes and feel the carpet between my toes. I look to my roommate only to see her looking back at me. The look in her eyes is unreadable as she opens her mouth to speak.
"I'm Cammanda, but most call me Cam," she says softly. "I held my little sister's face and she died."
"My name is Nova," I reply. "I killed my best friend by holding his hand. What do you think they're recruiting us for?"
"Personally I think it's to defeat North Korea if a war breaks out," she says. "I think that they want to use us to heal our army and kill the enemy. I'm really scared Nova."
