There was no stopping it now. All I could see was my companions and friends falling down, lying on the ground, dirt and blood mixed together creating a dirty and slushy feeling that made me sick. I couldn't get these feelings in my head. They would only slow me down. I needed to win this war and prove that everyone chose the right decision to step onto my side. The only thing that I should be thinking about is-

"Look Out!" someone yelled.

I duck fast and silent with predatory smoothness, ready to swipe with my daggers. Only then do I see that the person who yelled had just shot an arrow into someone right behind me. If I hadn't ducked I would probably be dead on the ground like the other hundreds of people. She saved my life.

"Thank you..." I trail off seeing that while time has passed, everyone had been slaughtered in a matter of minutes by one person. The person that is feared by all people including Kings and Queens with guards and servants at their beck-and-call. Everyone knew who he was. Abex. I swallow the urge to run or scream or whatever you could do in a time like this and stare into those deathly calm eyes that were staring right back at me.

"I've heard a lot about you." Growled the man with dark eyes and a soulless heart. "How could such a pretty little girl like you be in a war like this?"

I couldn't help myself, couldn't stop the retort that flashed to my mouth, "First off, I'm not a little girl!" That part was true. I was about 19 and was a very attractive person. Tall and slim with a muscular body. "And I'm-"

"I don't believe I asked you, did I?" He looked me up and down traveling a little too slow. Finally meeting my eyes he says, "Although you seem like a fine prize after a long and cruel war, I am sad to say that you and your companion are going to have to come to an end."

His eyes shone with nothing but a promise for a slow and painful death. If he could catch her. Wait. My companion. I risk a glance at her. I had forgotten. Usually, I wouldn't care about someone I didn't know, but she saved my life and now I owed a life debt to her. "No."

The eyes of Abex had been on the girl but now snap to me. "And why do you think I should spare you?" He said slowly, clipping each word.

"Because you said yourself that I would be a fine prize, so take me. She saved my life so let her go."

His mouth quirked up slightly in a small and lethal grin. "You don't know what you're getting yourself into, little girl."

That look could have stopped my heart had it not been the fiery rage forming inside. He couldn't get away with this! "You can't just kill innocent people!"

"Who said you were innocent?" Was his only reply.

"What did we ever do to-"

"Guys look..." I looked at the girl standing by me. This was the first time she had spoken after Abex had come along. I followed her line of sight and saw what was slowly but surely walking toward us. It was not from this world. It looked like something that had walked straight from hell with its molten rock colored scales and black slobber falling onto the ground. Almost like hot tar. And those teeth. They looked like something met to shred apart skin.

"Holy sh-"

"Wait. You didn't bring it?" I say turning to Abex.

"Well, no, I didn't bring it, and in case you want to keep your ass you might want to run."

"Why! What is... that" I say pointing at the thing that was now snarling in front of me.

"Be careful where you put that finger. It's a Helltar. A species from the inferno. They like to eat anything with flesh and bones."

Oh crap. That was not good! I turn around barely able to dodge the Helltar's sharp black teeth. We all sprint as fast as possible and run into the woods. Trees are scattered everywhere, surprising me that no one has run into a tree.

"Lillith!" I hear my name said low and strangled. Then I realize.

"You never said the thing could talk!" I yell above the rushing air blowing past my body as I run.
