Lost Love

1. Anniversary

Brennan's pov

Its September already which means it's football season.Well almost all year is football season for me. It was a Friday which meant we had a game tonight. My dad loves football. We play it all the time. I love it too, its my life.

Anyways as of right now I'm on my bus and we are at the last stop of the morning. We have had a sub on the bus and I have no idea what happened to our actual bus driver but I hate this sub. He takes off before you can sit down causing you to almost fall. Well we are at Maya's house and she sits behind me.

As she's walking down the aisle the bus driver takes off. I was still some what asleep when her hand slams into the back of my seat right beside my face. She curses under breath and swings around into her seat.

She then realizes she almost hit me. "I'm sorry Brennan I didn't mean to-" I cut her off with a smile as she rambles on about not meaning to almost hit me. "It's ok Maya." My voice still evident of sleep. She blushes and smiles nodding. She turns to her friend, Emily I think. She was new last year and they seemed like best friends.

As we pull into the school I get a text from Lucas. He's one of my closest friends. I've known him all my life.

Lucas: Hey I got ur text this morning. I don't know if I'm coming today.

I texted him this morning seeing if he was riding the bus or if he was driving to school. He usually comes to school unless something's wrong. Then it hits me. I check the date and I'm right. It's their anniversary.

Lucas had been with Maya last year after she found out about his crush on her. They dated for a little while but then she just left him out of the blue. She didn't even tell him why. He was heart broken. I remember that night. I had to drive him home because he was drunk off his ass. There had been a game that night. She broke up with him at the game and he ended up at a party afterwards.

I remembered seeing her there too. I was pissed when I found out. I thought and still do think she is just like Kiley. I kick myself for being nice to her a few minutes ago. But anyways at the party she had a tear stained face and was running out pulling Emily with her.

       I text him back.

Me: Hey dude don't let her get to u. Just come to school. Show her that she's not important anymore. U better come to the game.

Lucas: ok fine I'll be there soon. I'm coming to the game.

Me: Is Carrie coming?

Carrie use to be Maya's best friend. She was really short and funny. As far as I know she was mad about what she did to Lucas and left her. Lucas and Carrie have known each other since kindergarten. I think they liked each other but Lucas is still hesitant about relationships right now.

Lucas: Yea she texted me this morning. Hey u know u could ride with me to school. Or u could get a car.

Me: That's funny. Try telling my dad to get me a car. And I'm not driving with ur reckless ass anyways. 😂

Lucas: Whatever man I'll see u in a few.😂

Me: see ya.

   I sit up and try to fix my hair because it has been tossed everywhere from sleep. As I'm doing that I hear Emily whisper something to Maya.

"Look Maya it's been a year. I'm sure he's over it. Quit beating your self up. Your heart was in the right place." I turn around without them noticing. She shakes her head. "No Emily he's not. I did this for them and he won't trust her because of me. I ruined his life."

What?

The bus driver opens the door and lets us get off. I get off before Maya and storm off the bus. I stop trying to get my thoughts together as her and Emily pass by me. She's lying. She didn't care about him. She was just messing with him. She's just like Kiley. Kiley. I see Kiley walks up to Maya.

I follow them up to the school. "You ok girl? You looked bummed on the bus." Kiley rides our bus too. Seems like everybody does. "I'm ok." She smiles. She looks happy at a glance but if you've seen her smile like I got to growing up you know she's not happy. When she's really happy or generally smiling her dimple on her right cheek shows.

Flashback

It was a Friday night and we were all at the game. Me, Lucas, Maya, and Carrie. I was still bummed about what happened with Kiley. I was walking behind Maya and Lucas as they held hands. Maya was on the right with Carrie beside her. Lucas was on the left telling them a joke making them burst into laughter.

Maya turned around to look at me. Her smile could light up the world. Her dimple on her cheek making me weak in the knees. I push out the feeling thinking it's just because of Kiley. Maya losses her smile when she sees my face. She tells Lucas something and gives him a quick kiss before coming to talk to me.

"Hey you ok?" I shake my head as I look down at my feet. "Me and uh... Kiley broke up." I say softly." Brennan I'm so sorry! She's not worth it! It'll be ok I promise." I feel as though she's right. I smile at her taking in every curve of her body.

          She was wasn't like other girls. She was thick and god she was beautiful. I didn't understand why Lucas was the only guy to notice her here. Her hair was a light brown and fell almost to the middle of her back. She was absolutely stunning. No she's Lucas's girl. Stop you don't like her!

      Lucas runs back to us. "Hey there's a party tonight you in?" I look up at Maya who is smiling again. "Sure man." I say as he grabs Maya's hand and pulls her along and yelling for me to follow as we head back to the car to go to the party with Carrie behind us.

              End of Flashback

       I shake the memory out of my head as I head into my first block class. Maya and me have almost all of the same classes. Last year it wasn't a problem. We were like best friends. I still can't believe what she did to Lucas.

     I take a seat a row from the back. Maya walks in and takes the last seat behind me. Lucas makes it to class right before the bell. He walks over taking the empty desk to my left. "Phew didn't think I was gonna make it." He laughs lightly trying to ignore the fact Maya is behind us.

     During class I turn and see she's on her phone. She glances up at Lucas before letting her face fall back down to her phone as it buzzes. I already knew who she was talking to. She has been dating some selfish ass that thinks he can have whatever he wants. His name is Dallas. He's a total jerk who is always partying.

    Emily is sitting next to Maya on her right. They start whispering before her loser boyfriend sticks his head in the door. I turn and look at Maya. Her face goes pale as she spots him. She looks like she might have a panic attack.

"Mrs. Green, I'm suppose to take Maya to the office." I already know he's lying. "Maya you can go." Mrs. Green says to Maya. She seems like she's frozen in her seat before she hesitantly walks out of the room.

I know something is up. I was about to excuse myself to go see what was happening when Lucas gives me a look that makes me sit back down. "Leave her." He whispers. I nod but my thoughts get the better of me.

Why did Maya look scared? What's happening? I try to tell myself I shouldn't worry about her. She broke my best friends heart. I bring myself out of my thoughts as she comes back to class with her head down. She has a hoodie on now. I'm guessing she got it from her locker. Before we leave Emily slips me a note.

He's beating her.

I lose it as I run out into the hall crumpling up the letter. When I find him it isn't pretty.
