That fall afternoon, Mephiles and Vanilla had tragic news to tell their children. They had been dreading telling them for weeks, and today was the day it had to be said. Mephiles looked at his wife with the saddest look he's ever had. "Do you think it's time?" Mephiles asked his wife, his voice nearly breaking. Vanilla looked at her husband with a look of despair. Today was the day the couple had to give up their three children. Dr. Eggman had ordered them to do so because they have consistently refused to give him the seven Chaos Emeralds. His threat was that he'd either take their three sons, or the couple would have to hand over the Chaos Emeralds. They couldn't let someone of his intellect use the emeralds to the best of his abilities; so the couple had decided to choose the latter option. They looked at each other and took a deep breath. "Well", Mephiles began. "This is it, this is something we have to do. If we don't do it now, who knows what horrible things Dr. Eggman could do to them." A tear slid down Vanilla's cheek. "It's not fair", she said, her voice broken. "The boys are our lives; our everything! I can't believe that we have to do this! It just seems so cruel!" Vanilla then burst into tears and Mephiles tightly hugged her. "I can't believe it either", he whispered in the saddest tone one could hear. "It's the last thing I want to do. But it's either this or the boys' lives." The couple hugged each other as tightly as they could, and emotionally prepared themselves to tell their boys the tragic news.
