Silver stepped into the forest separating the Wave fairies from the Geo fairies. He gently tucked his wings in, and didn't dare make a sound. He was going to go into Geo territory, no matter how he would be punished. He avoided stepping on twigs, or brushing bushes. He did not speak, even when he thought someone was following him. He stayed away from animals, who would surely be startled by his silvery eyes, hair, and wings. The forest wasn't very dense at all, plenty of light shone through the leaves and reflected annoyingly off of Sliver's shiny skin.
Silver was a Wave fairy, more specifically an air fairy, and he should be high up, soaring through thin, cold air. He should absolutely NOT be in a forest, walking into Geo territory.
But he was.
And he was suffering the consequences.
Sweating. Lots of it, along with being very tired,
Soon enough, he found a log to rest on in a cooler section of the forest. Sliver was bombarded by unfamiliar sounds of the forest, and strange smells. But he did recognize something. The sound of fluttering wings and toes barley brushing against the ground. Another fairy (with horrible manners, who would touch the ground while flying? Yuck.) Was coming his way.
Sliver didn't move, he didn't make a sound. But the fairy got closer and closer, until they were in sight.
"Hello?" The fairy called. Sliver stayed quiet.
"I know you're there, you're so shiny."
This other fairy was a girl, and her dark hair and earth colored clothing made it obvious that she was a Geo fairy. Silver knew he shouldn't say anything. He knew that he could make her think that this was all imaginary. But couldn't bare hold still for any longer.
"Hello." He said.
The girl looked shocked and amused at the same time.
"You speak!" She laughed. "Wow!"
Silver started to get up and continued walking.
"Hey, wait!" The girl said. "Where are-"
"Don't tell anyone about this." Silver interrupted, and started to run.
"Come back!" The girl yelled. She was running like crazy after him, but Silver had gotten a head start. "My name- you don't know it! And- I don't know you! I need a- I mean, you look like a nice guy!"
"Looks can be deceiving."
The girl rolled her eyes.
"Can you at least tell me your name?" She whined. "Please?"
Silver didn't respond, he was almost in Geo territory. He was approaching the mountains, and once he walked through the path, he would have reached the desert...
But he couldn't go, he was being followed. He turned around and stoped.
"Go away!" He commanded. "This is serious, and you don't seem to understand. Go. Away."
The girl looked shocked.
"I'm not going!" She said. "We should be friends! My name's Arrow, what's yours?"
Silver growled.
"I'm not telling you that. Why do you want to know, anyways."
"So we can be friends."
"Geo and Wave fairies can't be friends. That rule is to keep us safe, don't you know anything about history? About what happened?"
Silver seemed angry, and Arrow seemed confused.
"Let's brake the rule." Arrow said. "I don't know what you're talk-"
"You actually don't know what happened? You- your-" Silver interrupted. He was horrified, were ALL Geo fairies like this? Did they ALL lack basic knowledge?
"Well, we can still be different. It doesn't have to end badly." Said Arrow.
"I guess that has a sliver of truth in it..." Silver said.
"And you seem like a pretty smart person."
Silver held back a smile.
"So tell me your name." Arrow finished. Silver sighed.
"My name... Is Silver."
"Wow, your parents were so creative." Arrow said. Silver giggled. "Want me to show you the way through the mountains?"
"Yes please."
The two began walking together, Arrow seemingly enjoying the environment, while Silver was already missing his home. Soon the two were holding hands and walking side by side.
They were quiet for awhile.
"I hope they'll understand." Arrow said, braking the silence. "Maybe we should disguise you as a Geo fairy."
"No." Said Silver. "They don't need to know I exist at all."
Arrow nodded slowly.
"I guess that works." She said.
"Good, we've agreed on something."
"Yes, yes we have."
Arrow was sweating, she looked very nervous about something.
"What's going on?" Asked Silver. "Did you finally remember why we can't be friends, and just started freaking out about it?"
Arrow shook her head.
"No, it's nothing." She said.
"Well, it sure looks like you have realized how horrible this situation is. Come on, tell me what's up." Silver said. He never managed to sound like he cared, his voice was just to strong and strict, it was hard to find him comforting.
"It's NOTHING." Arrow said. "I mean, it's nothing."
"You're hiding something."
"No, I'm sorry if it sounded like that. It's just..." Arrow said. Silver wasn't convinced.
"Why did you change all of a sudden? You were so bouncy and sweet just a bit earlier."
Arrow laughed, but it sounded a bit forced.
"What? 'Change'? Ha! You must be kidding me!"
"That sounds... odd."
"Oh, sorry. I never knew that 'Cheerful' and 'odd' were synonyms."
"You have a strange sense of humor."
The two laughed and talked the whole way through the path through the mountains. It was almost as if they forgot about Arrow's sudden outbreak of anxiety. Soon enough they had walked the trail through the mountains, and were almost in the desert.
It was hot.
Very hot.
Silver walked slower with ever step, this was no place for a Wave fairy. No fairy should live in this kind of place, it was horrible.
"How can people survive this?" Silver groaned.
"How cold is is it where you live?"
"Much, much, colder than this. An actual reasonable temperature."
Arrow rolled her eyes. Silver glared at her.
"Hey, don't be so down!" Arrow said. "Nothing's wrong!"
"Weren't you freaking out a bit earlier?"
Arrow was quiet. Silver smiled the smallest bit.
"You don't want to know why I was nervous."
"Oh yes, yes I do."
