I knew it was the middle of the night when i woke up, I didn't even have to open my eyes. It was pitch black all around, save for the orange glow the clock omitted. It wasn't anything more than a decoration, the light from it illuminated nothing. The numbers said 1:40, a bit earlier than I usually woke up suddenly. My disoriented mind wondered what could have caused it this time.
Fumbling for my phone, the first thing I noticed was this feeling of a lump in my stomach, an unpleasant heaviness deep inside condensed into the size of a brick. It felt like I ate one, but as far as I knew I couldn't even swallow one. Judging from that alone, the sick feeling was probably what interrupted sleep.
Drinking from the water bottle at my bedside did nothing, other than remove a fraction of the copper taste in my mouth. Brushing my teeth would help, and maybe relieve this disgusting feeling, but decided getting up just for that wasn't worth it.
As I yawned, I could smell something horrid.
Disgusting scents of hot metal and chemicals, something that wouldn't ever be present in my room. I couldn't tell where it came from at first, but with every huff and breath I'd catch it again. It was downright revolting.
The feeling in my stomach only grew worse from this bad reaction, and I could feel it move and stretch inside. It felt like molten lead, sloshing inside a bucket with something splashing inside. Soon enough I couldn't stand it any longer, and pulled myself from bed as quickly as I could.
I couldn't even make it a few steps into the hall before collapsing at my knees, disorientation and pain locking my movement. The movement got worse by the moment, the stench getting worse.
I threw up.
Immediately I knew something was wrong.
Rather than its usual gross nature, this was different. With the lack of light I couldn't see it, but the smell hit me the most. The fumes smelled like chemicals, something that might be used as ink, with some sort of metal. The liquid itself felt heavy, smooth, like syrup. It coated my lap, and the floor in front of me. I felt like I couldn't move. To confirm my thought, I grabbed my phone with weak hands and turned on the light, seeing the shiny black substance immediately. Definitely some sort of ink.
Though, something in it moved.
In the center of the mess was something writhing, and ass the liquid spread its shape became more defined.
A thick worm, with rows of knife-like teeth on one end. It struggled to move on the solid ground, twisting in place to get some sort of movement. It hissed and puffed, as if angry for being disturbed from its sudden extraction, and continued to flail as I stared in frozen horror.
Night brought nothing but a restlessness and trouble.
