Life's Complicated Enough
Chapter 8
It took me a second to understand what happened. Me and Adam ran to our mothers side. We both hugged her shoulders while she just cried. She cried for about 5 min. I would rub her back hoping it would make her feel better.
When she finally stop crying she sat up on her knees. She wiped under her eyes like she had makeup on.
Mom never really was a makeup kinda girl. She never wore makeup anymore. I've seen pictures of her with makeup on but never actually seen her wearing makeup. Even as a teenager she didn't really wear makeup. Only on special occasions. That's why I'm not allowed to wear makeup.
Mom got up slowly. "Come on, let's go inside." Mom said walking through the hole in the wall where the door used to be.
As I walked into the kitchen, I looked to see if anything was missing, or anything broken. The fridge was still there. Microwave was there. Everything looked normal.
I turned the corner into the living room. The tv was there. The two couches. My moms derby hat on top of the lap. Everything looked normal.
I turned around and looked at mom. She had silent tears on her face.
" The house got robbed yesterday." she finally told us. She looked at both me and Adam to see what our reactions would be. We stayed still. Emotionless. Just staring at mom.
Finally Adam spoke up," What did they take?" he asked thinking the same thing as me. He looked around to see if anything was gone. Then turned back to face mom.
" Just my flat screen tv." she said wiping her eyes.
" That's it?" me and Adam said in unison.
" That fucking tv cost 800 dollars!" she yelled. I flinched. I swear I think this whole family is bipolar. Except for me. One minute she's crying on her knee and the next she's yelling like she wanted to kill someone.
" Do you know who did it?" I asked. Mom started crying again. With her hand over her mouth I barely heard her say,
" Charles." she choked out. Of course. That bitch just had to ruin our life just that more. I just thought about what would happen to him.
" Is he in jail?" Adam asked.
" No, they haven't found him yet." she said sitting down on the couch.
" So he didn't take anything else? My laptop? Or anything?" I asked looking towards my room.
My mom snickered a little bit. " That man has know me long enough to know that if he messes with my kids, he'll get fucked up. So yes your laptop is still on your bed. They didn't even open your alls doors." she started massaging her temples.
After that me and Adam both went to our own rooms and tried to pretend that we could here our moms crying. I think the thing that get her the most was just the fact that Charles would do this. After everything we've done for him. I hoped that I wouldn't have to see Charles ever again.
(flash back)
I was sitting on my bed watching tv. Mom was in the living room and Adam was in his room. I saw something move in the corner of my eye. I look towards my door and I see something black move.
As soon as I saw it, I automatically knew what it was...
A mouse.
I couldn't breath as I watched it crawl along my wall until it was behind my desk. I tried calling mom but I could move. I finally found a little piece of my voice.
