Luther sighed as he raked a hand through his messy black hair. It was his birthday in three day's, and his mind was overfilling with thought's. His birthday had lost it's significance to him a while ago, but it was different this year. He'd be turning 18 and that meant he could no longer live at Livinghill Orphanage. To be honest, he was sort of relieved. He wouldn't have to share a room, he wouldn't have to have a curfew, and he wouldn't have to worry about the other children stealing the little possession's he owned.
But still, the other part of him was nervous. He had no where to go. He had no family.
Family, that word sparked pain in his chest. He couldn't remember the amount of time's he layed awake at night, thinking about them. They never found who did it, and that fact made him both sad and angry. That's why he made a vow to himself. To find the person who did it and get his revenge.
Now that he was 18 he was able to do it. And he had been thinking over his plan for year's and year's. It couldn't fail. Every step was thoroughly thought over and it was full proof.
He was taken out of his thought's by a knock at the door.
"Come in!" His deep voice called out.
The door opened and Luther saw that it was one of the little girl's who lived here.... Carmen, he thought her name was.
"Headmistress wants to see you." She told him.
The Headmistress wanted to talk to him? He hoped that she wasn't kicking him out early. He still needed to figure out a place to stay.
"Thank you, Carmen." He gave a polite head nod, hoping he got her name correct.
She nodded at him and left. Standing up, he straightened out his grey shirt and fixed his shaggy hair. He didn't want to look like a mess in front of her. The Headmistress was a nice woman. She had always been kind to him, and even though she could be very strict, he liked her all the same.
Walking down the hall and upstairs, where her office was he gave a gentle knock before entering.
"Come in, Luther." She spoke.
"You wanted to speak with me Headmistress?" He sat down on a chair in front of her desk.
"Yes i did. Luther your turning 18 in three day's." She folded her hands.
"I know." He looked down. "Are you kicking me out today?"
"Luther." She laughed. "No, that isn't why i had to speak with you."
He gave her a confused look.
She gave him a gentle smile, "Luther, you and i both know you have no where to go. So no, im not going to just kick you out on the street's." She grabbed a folder on her desk.
"My friend owns a home. It's a big house and people live there under the condition that they help out. I contacted him about you, and he's willing to lend you a room."
He gaped at her. "Ma'am i couldn't.... It's too generous of you..."
"Nonsense." She held up a hand. "Think of it as an early birthday present. You've been such a kind boy, even after all you've been through. It's the least i could do."
She handed him the folder and he looked through it. There were direction's to the house and picture's of it.
"Thank you." He grinned at her. "Headmistress, im forever grateful."
"Your welcome." She smiled back. "You should get going though, i've sent word that you'd be there today."
"I'll visit soon. Goodbye." He stood up and opened the door.
"Don't rush back. Enjoy your life, Luther. Goodbye." She waved back and he was gone.
He was done packing quickly. He didn't own much, besides a photobook of his family and his clothes.
Stepping out of his room with his suitcase, he walked downstairs, past the kitchen and the hall, and out the front door.
Giving one final look at the orphanage, he murmured under his breath. "Goodbye, Livingwell orphanage."
He faced forward, the cold air blowing past him. "Whoever you are.... Im coming for you."
