Rondeau: We Board this Train
©2017, Olan L. Smith
We board this train with minds anew
Our friends of bygone times askew
And dreams of then and now alike,
Perhaps we ride to meet unlike
In times before this life's debut.
The trip is short we say ado
We live to chance and thereunto
Resign our breath so statesmanlike,
We board this train.
Alas, and down the road we flew
And steel on steel of colors blue
A brakeman's job is canvas like
And spread in time 'tis resin like
Attaching stubs with stubs alike,
We board this train.
(A.N. This is a 15 line rondeau poem. Each line has eight iambic syllables and uses the rhyme scheme of a,a,b,b, R, a,a,b, R, a,a,b,b,b, R. The refrain is the first four syllables of line one.
