The air is cold and dry. I, Tomato Tom, am one of the few left to look upon the battlefield. The place where many vegetables, fruits, desserts, and all kinds of food have lost their life in honor of protecting their side of the pyramid. The Food Pyramid to be exact. Many people have only seen one side of this temple, but I assure you, the other three sides, Dessert, Candy, and Laffy Taffy, are just as important.
It was Laffy Taffy's break away from the Candy side of the pyramid that started this war. They always wanted their own side because before, there was only three sides. Laffy Taffy's jokes tormented everyone until the three leaders, Apple, Cake, and Lollipop, agreed to give Laffy Taffy it's own side. Together they made a new pyramid and made it with four sides. After years of peace from each side, Laffy Taffy called war. They wanted the entire pyramid to themselves. This caused outrage. Every troop was called to fight, but Laffy Taffy wouldn't go down very easily. Their stretchiness made it hard to hit them and their chewiness made them almost invincible.
So now we are here. Ten years later and all that's been accomplished was nothing but destruction. I've seen things I wish to unsee. A baby carrot losing its parents, an egg being boiled alive. Those Taffies are nothing but monsters.
In Trash Can Land, the place in between the two fighting sides, I walk wearily. I haven't rested for days, but my leader, Apple, says we mustn't stop until we've pushed back the Taffy. They've already claimed half of the candy side and it's only a matter of time before they fully complete it.
I spot a candy cane tree in the distance. Even though I respect my leader, I simply can't go on much further. My legs are weak and I can feel the seeds inside of me rot. When I reach the tree, I see that there is already somefood sitting under it. Sadly, it is obvious they are no longer with us.
I look on him for a name. That's when I find the sticker. "Brock Lee." It says. The poor stalk couldn't be more than thirteen years old. It makes me wonder if his parents know about him. If they know he is gone.
I sit down next to the poor lad and lean my round tomato body against the red and white striped tree. My eyes get as heavy as pound cake and they slowly close. Ever so slowly I drift into food dreamland.
In my dream, I see the Three Legends. Who are the three legends you ask? Well, they are rumored to be sacred fighters of the pyramid, but no one has ever seen them before. Not even the Leaders.
The Three Legends are all fries. The rarest food you'll see. Each fry has its own specialty. There's Curly Fry. Bouncy and flexible. Can wrap and bend any food it wishes with its carefully spring round body. Then there's Cheese Fry. Gooey and cheesy. Able to fling cheese to trap enemies. And lastly there's... Actually, it's best if I not say this one. It is said that if you say his name you will instantly die. And I am not ready for that to happen yet.
With a quick breath I wake up from my fry dream. I come back to reality and to the barren trash land. Brock Lee lays peacefully next to me with his unmoving chest and rested eyes.
"I will get you home." I say to him. "You will be remembered for your sacrifice." I stand up. Taking one arm and slinging it over my shoulder, I walk with Brock back to the vegetable side of the pyramid.
Just before we reached the border, we were attacked. We were surrounded by none other than Banana flavored Laffy Taffies. The worst kind of taffy there is. I lay Brock Lee down. If I go down, I'm going down fighting. I will do what it takes to protect my pyramid.
That's when a shining light came from afar. We all look to it. It's hard to make out, but somefood is standing off in the distance. It's slim and completely straight. Unless my eyes are deceiving me, its color is yellow.
"It... It can't be!" One of the taffies says. They all begin to panic. But who are they talking about? I can't see who it is. That's when the food in the distance jumps high into the air and swings what looks to be some sort of sword. I duck, unlike the taffies who seem to find that difficult. They are all cut in half from the blade's sharp wind. Their bodies dropped like sacks of flour and they lie there very still.
Shaking wildly, I felt a presence walk up to me. I slowly stand up and look this hero in the face. Now I know why those taffies were scared. Now I know how this food finished them off with one swing of a sword. Before I could say a word, he cut me off.
"Yes. Tis' I, the Frenchiest Fry." His smile was calming and upon closer viewing, his sword is actually a giant cutting knife. I still couldn't find any words to say to him. But it didn't matter anyways. He gave me water and told me a quicker way to get back home.
As mysteriously as he came, he left while I wasn't looking. Meeting him gave me hope. That we can end this war with the Laffy Taffies and go back to the way things were. But today is not that day. I continue with Brock Lee towards home. But it then led me to think. Who? Who would ever believe that I had encountered him? The Frenchiest Fry.
