I knelt down beside the dead body that lay in the street. I ran my pale, cold hands down the side of the man’s lifeless face. A single tear ran down my cheek as I stood up and started plotting the revenge on the person who killed my father.
It was six in the morning on a Monday and outside my window that was just over my head board was a heavy fog. The fog was so heavy I could barely see my neighbors’ car pull out of their driveway. I got out of bed and walked to my yellow bathroom to get ready for school. Every morning I always have a certain routine that I use to get ready. First, I take a shower and put on clothes. After that I turn on my slick black straightener and while it’s heating up I brush my teeth and put on my black eye-liner. Usually I am ready before the straightener is all the way heated so I sit in the bathroom and stare at my deep blue eyes and my mid-back length hair and how it is pitch black. I am not obsessed with my looks but the fact that I look nothing like my mother or father intrigues me. My mother has blonde short hair and brown eyes just like my sister. My father has brown hair and blue eyes like mine only mine are bluer. “Beep!” I hear my straightener go off telling me that it is heated up. I walk back to my sky blue bedroom to find my straighteners light flashing. I brush my hair and put steam protectant in and start straightening it. I am in the middle of putting my shoes on when I hear my mother yell down the hall “Patients! You are going to be late for school if you don’t hurry up! James is waiting!”
“Alright mother!” I roll my eyes and look down the hall where you can see our living room couch. There I see James who is my best friend and has been ever since the sixth grade. His last name is O’Conner and he used to live in Ontario Canada but moved to Dead Man’s Gulch. Why? I have no clue he told me his dad got a job up here but, there really aren’t that many jobs so I think he’s lying to me. I walked out into the living room and said “Hey James, Let’s get outta here.” He smiled.
As we were walking to school James and I were awkwardly silent. We both just kind of had nothing to say until I heard James mutter under his breath.
“Did you hear?” he asked.
“Hear? Hear about what?” I replied as my gaze went from the ground to his tan face.
“The random killings that have been going on; they say it is really bad.”
“No, I didn’t hear; where has this been happening?” I asked with the sound of confusion through my voice.
“Well apparently they have been happening close to the forest, some even in that main street that runs just across from the school.
“The forest no way?! That is so close to us! This is insane, when did you hear about this?” I got worried.
“I heard last night on the news; they also said that they found about ten bodies last night. Three were killed yesterday and the rest days before. There was even one that was like killed almost two weeks ago!” He replied.
“Wow… this is really bad.” I didn’t really care. Not because I don’t think it’s bad but only because it hasn’t bothered me or James so why should I?
James nodded and we continued walking until James said something again. “Wait isn’t your dad in the forest today?” I stopped and began to worry. I could literally feel my heart drop into my stomach and get disposed by the acid. James stopped and looked into my eyes. I stared back into his chocolate brown eyes and then looked at his perfect golden brown hair. “He is but, I think he will be fine; he is my father.” We continued walking. I’m still worried but the possibility of this person getting him is almost one in maybe a thousand.
