The ocean was suffocating.

Now, being a mermaid that sounds odd, right? Not to Emilia. That's what she was feeling while swimming on the reef, her once best friend called Ariel seemed concerned as she tapped her shoulder.

Emilia shook her head, waving her hands in front of her to keep herself afloat. Ariel frowned, doing the same and pointed upwards, furrowing her eyebrows questionably

Emilia sighed mentally and nodded, both friends swimming upwards toward the surface.

"What is it?" As soon as oxygen hit them, Ariel found herself asking

Emilia, looking away from her and toward the east pursed her lips "I don't know"

Ariel swam closer to Emilia and stood next to her, watching the sunset on the same direction "Again that pull?" Emilia didn't answer at the knowing look her best friend gave her "If you keep ignoring it the ocean will keep shoving you away" the wiser mermaid said softly "It feels you're not comfortable" she pressed

"Marina told me to let it go" Emilia replied

Marina was the head of the Council in the Northern Pod, she was the one responsible of making sure other mermaids followed the rules. She had told Emilia after seeing the girl distracted that whatever it was to stop it before it got dangerous

"Marina is too busy with the law to follow her heart" Ariel retorted, raising a brow. "That's what mermaids have to do, follow their hearts. Ignoring it will make you feel sick like now"

"But I don't even know why..." Emilia huffed in frustration turning to face her best friend.

Ariel's green eyes glimmered with concern "That's why swimming is for. Didn't you tell me once that swimming to the east calmed you down?"

Emilia bit her lip, "Yes. But there's nothing to the east"

"That we can see" Ariel replied smartly, "Earth isn't so small. There are other pods around the wold"

"So do you think I have to, what? Visit another Pod?" Emilia asked skeptically. Ariel shrugged, expectantly "No way. The council won't allow it"

"That didn't stop us before" Ariel grinned mischievously

Emilia chuckled wholeheartedly "Yeah. That was a unique experience wasn't it?"

"Land-people are more interesting up close" Ariel commented with a smile

"You still go?" Emilia asked curiously bringing the red head mermaid to snort

"Don't try to act innocent, Emilia" Ariel tutted, pointing at her best friend "I know you still keep contact with those land-girls and boys"

Emilia shrugged sheepishly "What if i do?"

Ariel giggled, "We should be more careful, though. If anyone on the council finds out, goodbye to our moon rings" she said quietly, raising her right hand admiring the ring in her pointer finger

"That still doesn't tell me what I should do" Emilia returned back on topic, bringing the other mermaid back from her daydreaming

"There's land on the other side of the world, Em" Ariel said slowly, "You can have legs"

"And I can blend with land people" Emilia concluded in realization, smiling slightly "And that way I can try to find where this pull is taking me to"

Ariel nodded, sarcastically widening her eyes "Oh, my god! You're a genius! Why didn't I think about that?"

Emilia rolled her eyes "Anyway. How can I outwit the council?"

"Leave that up to me" Ariel reassured her. "Now swim away"

Emilia smiled, grateful "I don't know what I would do without you"

"Drown, obviously" Ariel replied blankly, "Now go!"

Emilia nodded, turning around and diving down the water, her tail splashing water to Ariel "Hey!" She exclaimed following her best friend

Emilia's bright blue eyes scanned the beach one more last time with a nostalgic smile, knowing if she wanted to know what that pull was she had to leave her home.

Her hair was dry, falling down her shoulders with the top of her head braided as it were a head band decorated with pearls.

There was a difference from the Emilia mermaid and this one. Emilia now looked like a human, like a land girl. Her long legs were covered with short jeans and her feet were with white snickers. Also she was wearing a white top and a purple flannel shirt. Across her chest hung around a militar colored bag full with things Emilia knew land people used, like money

"Psst"

Emilia looked around, finding Ariel's red head peeking out from behind a rock, "You realize there's no one here, right? What are you playing at? The mermaid spy?" She snorted

Ariel ignored the comment "The council now is distracted. I had the youngest creating a diversion for Marina and the others so the coast is clear"

Emilia sighed in relief "Thanks, I.."

"Stop right there" Ariel raised a hand, interrupting her "We do not have time for chic flick moments, Em. You know the council resolves that kind of trouble faster than a turtle so you have a few minutes to leave the Pod"

"You're right, you're the best. I'll call you as soon as I hit land" Emilia said walking forward to the water

"Corals?"

"Corals"

"Oh, okay"

"Sea stars maybe" Emilia added with a grin before running towards the water, the tides hitting her legs giving her less than ten seconds before her legs disappeared. Once she felt the transformation about to happen she dove down the water as a wave hit the shore letting the transformation happen inside the water instead of outside. Who knows who was watching.

Under the sea, a figure swam at a fast speed, giving turns around. It was Emilia swimming out of the Atlantic Ocean, her figure was encased with bubbles gaining more speed.

It was night when she reached the Indian Ocean, surfacing to take a deep breath. She seemed tired as she breathed heavily. Her tail was tired and she could feel the pull was closer and a serene feeling filed her leaving her content but still tired

"Tomorrow morning" she murmured to herself, looking around for somewhere to rest the night "I'll finally find out what destiny has for me"
