It was a long battle for everyone and especially hard for me.
We had to decide whether we let go or hold on for a little longer.
"Do you think it's for the best, Dee?" I asked meekly.
"As hard as it can be, we have to Charlie. It's time for us to let go and eventually move on with our lives." He said.
I started to cry when I heard those words coming out from his mouth.
Saying goodbye is never easy.
I walked slowly towards his bed and tried to stop myself from crying.
"I love you... more than anything in this world... you are my everything and I will never forget you." I whispered in his ear as I slightly squeezed his hand.
"Promise me...Charlie... that... you will... love again... that... you will... live life...to the...fullest...fulfill...the dreams...you have..." He whispered in my ear. He was breathing heavily and I can see he is in so much pain.
I nodded and cried; kissing the back of his hand.
Dylan placed his hand on my shoulder and gave it a gentle squeeze.
It was his assurance that everything will be alright.
Eventually.
He beckoned Dylan to his side and tugged him with all his strength closer to whisper,
"Bro... I know... you'll look after her... for me... make sure... she'll find... her happiness... and... make her... believe... in love... again..." his breath was shallow and quick.
Dylan nodded and started sobbing.
My brother finally broke down.
Bradley's family were already crying as we said our last goodbye.
Doctors have already told us that his time is running out; any moment now, he will be gone.
After the minor car accident we had, they found out a spread of tumor in his right lung and months of chemotherapy didn't work.
He was only 22 years old.
I was able to say goodbye for the last time to Bradley Timothy Smith, my first boyfriend for 6 years; my childhood best friend; my first love.
Dylan and I gave the family their privacy. We both cried in the hallway;
I was hysterically crying while hugging my twin.
