Luc grabbed the album off the shelf. He ran his fingertips over the leather cover and hesitated. Did he really need to look inside?
He opened the book slowly and as he peered down, he saw strands of blonde hair and then the beginnings of a face with fair skin. He slammed the album shut and stood from his desk, and walked over to the windowsill. Luc rubbed his temples as a migraine started to form. It had been 8 months since Gabrielle had passed, and still, he couldn't even bear to see a photo of her.
Her cancer had appeared suddenly. About 6 months after Addy was born, Gabrielle's milk hadn't been coming in properly. It was just supposed to be a quick fix. Yeah right. Now, Addy is almost 2 and Luc had to spend it alone
He couldn't even bear to look at the pictures. But life goes on. Just as Luc put the album back on the top shelf, the phone rang. With a sigh of contempt, Luc made his way across his office to his large wooden desk where his cell phone laid. He picked it up and accepted the call.
He could hear his assistant, Hugo talking, and he tried to keep up but only one thing stuck.
"Monsieur Dubois, we need you back at work".
How could he leave Addy all alone? His sister had arrived about 10 months ago to help out. Laverne had always been like that, helpful. But she was leaving after Addy's birthday and then he'd be left alone. He collapsed in his chair and turned on the tv, hoping for a distraction. The news showed stocks flashing before the screen but before Luc could change the channel, a commercial started playing. Hire an Au Pair today.
Maybe I'll do just that Luc thought.
au pairˌō ˈper/nouna young foreign person, typically a woman, who helps with housework or child care in exchange for room and board.

Hi there!
thanks for stumbling across this book, I hope you enjoy it!
Just a few brief notes, the prologue is in the secondary characters POV, who is French, but for the sake of this novel, when I write his POV it will be in English. When the main English speaking character is centre stage, You'll see more of her view of the French natives.
Next, I often struggle to stick with writing in the same tense, so I'm trying to stay with past tense but ignore any screw ups.
And finally, if you guys have any suggestions on how to cast this, let me know!
