It all started when a little girl wanted to start riding horses. Her name was Ellie. She was about 12 years old. Her family did not have enough money to buy a horse, but she lived close to the Fairgrounds where some horses were boarded. Her mom let her go out to the Fairgrounds and go look at the horses. She went out there everyday. There were ponies, Quarter Horses, and Thoroughbreds. Next to the Fairgrounds was a huge racing track. The little girl always dreamed of running horses on the track with her sister (Star). Star did not like horses as much as Ellie did.
One day Ellie saw these two ponies tied up to the arena railing outside. One pony was a white and black miniature pony, the other one was a brown miniature pony. They were both caught up in the ropes so Ellie un-clipped the brown pony and fixed his rope. He was happy that he was not caught up in the other pony's rope anymore. Ellie then walked into the indoor barn and instantly got a big whiff of the smell she loved.....the horse smell. She walked over to every horse and gave them love. Every horse got equal love. She then heard someone riding up to the barns. It sounded like a motorcycle. She walked outside and sure enough there was this older gentleman just getting off of his motorcycle. Ellie then saw that he was walking over to the two ponies tied up.
"Are those your ponies?" Ellie asked the man.
"Yes they sure are!" Said the man.
"What are their names?" She asked him.
"Oreo is the white and black miniature, and Chocolate is the brown miniature. Do you like them?" The man kindly asked.
"Yes I do. I wish I could ride, but I have no horse to ride." replied Ellie.
The man then untied both ponies and started walking them to the barn. He ended up asking Ellie if she would like to ride the ponies with his granddaughter. Of course Ellie said yes. They talked about it for a while and he then ha her go back home and talk to her mom about it while he went to go get his car and his granddaughter.
"Mom! Mom! Mom!" Ellie yelled while she was breathing heavily.
"What Ellie? Why are you breathing so hard??" Ellie's mom replied.
"I met this older guy and he has two miniature ponies. He offered to let me ride with his granddaughter, but he wants you to go back over to the Fairgrounds with me so he can get your permission and make sure I am the right fit for the ponies." Ellie said while she was trying to control her breathing.
"I suppose I will go down there with you. When do we need to go?" Ellie's mother had asked.
"He said I need to be back down there in half an hour. Hurry up and get ready!!! We only have 15 minutes left until we have to be down there!"Ellie had exclaimed trying to get her mom to go faster.
"Okay, let me go get dressed and I will take you back out there and I will go talk to the guy. But before we go you need to drink a full cup of water." Her mother had said.
"Fine mom." Ellie said with an attitude.
As Ellie's mom got dressed Ellie drank a full cup of water in two big gulps. She was so excited she was shaking a lot.
"Alright, let's go and talk to the man Ellie." Ellie's mother said as Ellie was already running out of the house.
When they got there, the man had both ponies outside tied up to the white railing right in front of the barn. He had the brushes set out ready for us to brush the ponies down. The man was pulling two saddles and two saddle pads out of his trunk as we were walking up. My mom walked over to him and talked to him while his granddaughter and I brushed the ponies. I was brushing Chocolate while his granddaughter was brushing Oreo.
"Hello, my name is Ellie." Ellie said while she was finishing brushing Chocolate.
"Hi. My name is Mary." Mary said while she put the brushes back.
"Do you ride them a lot?" Ellie asked. She was very curious about the ponies.
"Yeah. I come out here and ride them every night while my grandpa cleans their stalls.
"What is your grandpa's name?" Ellie asked.
"His name is Ron." replied Mary.
Ron came over and put the saddle pads on the ponies and then the saddles. He showed me how to tack them up because I did not know how to.
We then walked the ponies to the indoor arena. Once we were in Ron and Ellie's mom came in after them. They stood by the door and shut it. We got on the ponies and started walking and trotting them around. They were out there riding the ponies for about 2 hours just doing walk and trot things. They ended up hanging out a lot and rode together for a year straight. They were best friends for life. They did everything together like cantering the ponies, help feeding them, and helped clean out their stalls. The next year....they both got a big surprise.
