"The Jury has decided that the defendant, Maribel Ortiz, now has full custody of the child, Paul Balonier, along with the clearing of her criminal record. As for the prosecutor, Micheal Balonier, he will now have to pay child support monthly," the judge says hitting the hammer. As the room begins to clear he stands to leave. Maribel, her husband, and Micheal are the only ones left in the court room. Maribel and her husband finally take their leave after having a discussion in hushed tones, with Michaels eyes trailing behind them.
They headed to her mom's house where her son was along with his two younger brothers. When she got there he was playing "Call Of Duty." "Paul don't you ever get tired of playing that game, I mean you've been on it all day, and where's your grandmother," she asks as she passes by with a bag from McDonald's wafting through the living room. "Mom of course not, video games are life! Besides there's nothing else to do here, and she's not here. She left a little while ago. By the way, how were the errands you had to run," Paul asked focused on the game."They were fine, now come in here to eat and turn that game off before I turn it off for you," his mom says while looking for his burger. Sighing, Paul turns off the game console, washes his hands and plops down to eat. He then sets his hands down on the table tearing open the wrapper, digging into the burger. Paul was the first to finish eating as usual, and then he went outside to play basketball. After shooting a couple hoops, he goes back into the house to find his grandmother sitting in the kitchen mid-sentence. " How did it go and who won." My mother grimaces , "Well, I now have full custody of Paul and he has to pay child support monthly" "Congratulations on the victory," says Paul's grandmother sarcastically.
Later on that day, the whole family had gathered at the house for the usual Sunday night Cowboy game, however you see this Sunday night was a little different from the others. What Maribel and her husband didn't know was that Paul wasn't as oblivious to what was going on. He knew exactly what the errands were, but didn't want to say anything so that his mother wouldn't freak out about it and start blaming herself again for the entire situation. So he did what he normally does to make time pass, he stayed in his aunt's room playing video games to avoid his family as much as he could. It's not that he didn't love them, he just couldn't stand to be around them. Just as he finished playing, Paul's parents called him over, telling him that it was time to go home. He just nodded and quickly gathered everything he needed. When they started to drive, Paul put in his earplugs and blasted his music, while his step dad was driving and talking to his wife. When they got home Paul got down and rushed inside. He did what he usually does before heading to sleep, brushed his teeth, changed into shorts and a muscle shirt. A simple routine. However, when he went to bed, he couldn't fall asleep, for that was when he realized that his entire life was about to change.
