Chapter One- First Day

“Mom, when will I get to a real school? Ayaw ko na po ng dito lang sa house nag-aaral.”

“Next semester, magtatransfer ka na sa university. Your Dad decided to retire na sa military and we’ll put up a business na lang kaya magiging permanent na yung adress natin (smiles)”

“Talaga Mom? Yes! Finally. ”

~University

Second Quarter of the school year

“Class, I would like you to welcome a transferee. He’s from home-schooling kaya tutulungan natin syang maka adjust nang madali. Grade Three na kayo kaya wala akong mababalitaang nambubully gaya ng nabalitaan ko sa Grade two. Be nice to him ha. Okay  iho, introduce yourself na.” The teacher told me.

“Hi, Good morning po (smiles). I’m Gian Matteo Fernan Guidicelli, eight years old. I’m a new-comer in the subdivision near in this university. I’m looking forward to be friends with all of you. Thanks.” I’m a bit nervous but I’m excited to start my school days.

“Sige, ifollow na lang natin yung alphabetical seat plan. Guidicelli right? (checks her class record). Doon ka sa tabi ni Ms. Geronimo. Mr. Hernandez, usog ka ng isa para may maupuan si Matteo.”

“Thank you po Ma’am.”

“Okay, later na lang kayo magpakilala sa kanya kasi maiiwan tayo sa university time table. Kailangan nating matapos ang isang lesson na ipinrepare ko. Don’t forget to help your new classmate na maka catch-up. Sarah, you’ll be number one in charge since ikaw naman yung top one at katabi mo sya sa upuan.”

“Yes Ma’am (smiles). No problem po.”

~Break time

Everyone introduced themselves to me. I’m happy coz I can see their eagerness to help me. They’re all friendly, I’m relieved.

“Sarah Asher Tua Geronimo pala. Di ako nakapagpakilala agad kanina kasi may new topic si Ma’am (smiles). Here, yan yung mga requirements ng lahat ng teachers sa klase nila. Kayang-kaya mong makahabol. Just ask me kung may concern ka at sasagutin ko lahat. (smiles).” She gave me a note of the requirements.

She’s charming. She’s a bit noisy when the teacher is out but once the lesson starts, she’s serious and active in the discussions. She helps me cope up with the subjects and teach me some strategies to pick-up the topics easily, especially in Math. She’s not the typical top student who only thinks of herself and not sharing her knowledge. She’s kind, she’s cool.

“ Thank you. Ang bait mo pala. Sana di ka magsawang tulungan ako ha?”

“Huh? Mukha bang hindi? (smiles). Sure, I’ll help you, anytime. Ay sya nga pala, baka gusto mong mag sign-up sa chess-club, mukha ka kasing matalino. Natatakot tuloy ako. (laughs). Mag sasign-up kasi ako sa Women’s club. Sama ka sakin, magkatabi lang naman yung room ng sa Men’s club. Kailangang maging active ang section natin, bilin yan ng adviser.”

“Kailangan ba yan talaga? I know how to play pero di ko alam kung magaling ako e, palaging computer lang yung kalaban ko.”

“Don’t worry, itetest naman tayo doon. Kakalabanin natin yung mga club members. Computer lang din naman yung nakakalaban ko pero itatry ko pa rin.(smiles). Hihintayin kita ng 5 pm. Kasama rin yung iba nating kaklase. Tara ha?”

“Sige na nga (scratched his head)”

“Uy! Si Matteo, may kaloveteam na kaagad!! Sarah, Sarah, Sarah.” Everyone is teasing us.

Matteo’s POV

Is this a part of schooling? Agad-agad, inaasar ako kay Sarah. Parang wala lang naman sa kanya yung pang-aasar nila pero in my part, it’s quite annoying. Ayaw ko kasi ng maingay. Pero siguro  dahil hindi lang ako sanay. I’ll adjust na lang. I need to adjust.

I joined the chess match try-out. I don’t know If I’m just lucky pero yung lahat ng nakalaban ko ay parang mga beginner at medium level sa computer. I won all the matches and everyone is surprised because I also won against the club’s president. Automatic member na raw agad ako and the coaches talked to me. They signed me up immediately sa isang Open match ng university. One Lose out elimination basis wherein girls will also compete against boys. I’m so excited for the tournament. I want to test my ability. Totoo na to, hindi na computer yung makakalaban ko.

On the other hand, like me, Sarah also won against all the girls who tried out in the chess club. I’m happy kasi may kakilala ako sa tournament next week pero may kaba rin ako kasi makakalaban ko sya. Pareho kaming sa computer lang nagpapractice pero baka pareho rin yung level namin. Sana maging pabor sa amin yung laban. Sana makalaban ko sya at makapasok kami sa final match-up.

My first day of school is really great. I had more friends at marami ring nakarecognized sa akin. Sobrang saya. Sobra.

Author’s note:

Nobela po ata ito kaya simula pagkabata yung ginawa kong story. Hahaha. Sobrang iba po yung storyline pero sila pa rin yung bida :))
