Making my way down the hall on the first day of grade 10 is horrible. There are people dropping their books, carrying several binders, and popular girls scoping out potential boyfriends. Me? Well, I, Katherine Di Carlo, am not like them. You see, I'm a introvert. A geek. That one girl who'd rather read than go out with friends. I'm usually ignored, which I'm okay with.
I push past the struggling students, and make my way to my first class, science. There, I find a seat in the back, and pull out a book. I used my vivid imagination to play the book in my head like a movie. I was so into it, I didn't notice when the teacher called my name.
"Katherine?" I jolted my head up towards the front.
"Yes?"
"Is that a good book you're reading?" The teacher said, smirking at me. A few other students chuckled.
"Yes." I replied, making myself look like I'm not affected.
"Please wait until after class to read, Miss Di Carlo." I sighed, put my book down, then looked straight at the front.
My heart skipped a beat.
Probably the hottest guy I've ever seen walked into the classroom.
"Marcus, you're late." The teacher snapped. They must've known this student.
"Sorry, sir."
That voice.
He fixed his hair, and wandered down the aisle, looking for an empty desk. I was so hypnotized, that I didn't notice him saying my name.
"Katie?" He said, looking me in the eyes.
Those eyes.
"Y-yea?" I stammered, trying not to get lost in his green pupils.
"Is this seat taken?" He asked, gesturing to the seat on my right.
"N-no. Go ahead." I squeaked, drawing my attention away from him, my face as red as a tomato He sat down, and the teacher began to talk.
After a few classes of trying to ignore his beautiful face, the lunch bell rang. I gathered my things and walked out of the room as fast as I could. I grabbed my change purse, and my book, and made my way down to the cafeteria, and got into the food line. The line was moving quite slowly, so I opened my book and began to read. Soon enough, I reached the front of the line, where my favourite lunch lady stood. "Well!" She smirked, "Look who it is!"
"Hey, Miss Reynolds. I'll have the usual, please." I said, as I reached into my coin purse. Miss went to prepare my favourite, fries with a top of gravy. But when I went to grab my cash, I realized I had left it on the kitchen table this morning. "Crap!" I said angrily as I checked my pockets. Miss was approaching the counter.
"Whats wrong?" I voice behind me asked, and I turned around. It was him.
"Oh! Um....hey Marcus. I....um...forgot my money at home." I stammered. Miss Reynolds was at the counter now. Marcus paused for a second, then looked at Miss and calmly said, "I'll cover Katie's meal."
"Oh Marcus...you don't have to--" he cut me off.
"Katie. You have no lunch. It's the least I can do." He slid the money onto the counter, Miss counted it, then put it in the register. As I leaned over to grab my fries, Miss Reynolds whispered, "Is he your boyfriend?"
I blushed at the sudden comment. "What? No!" I whispered back. She smirked at me. I sighed, then whispered back. "I wish." Before walking to an empty table.
I couldn't concentrate on my book, as I kept sneaking glances at Marcus at the table beside me. I eventually finished my fries, threw away my trash, and walked to my next class, silently hoping that Marcus would be there.

After a long day of school, I biked home, did some homework, ate my dinner, read my book, and went to bed,
