What is love? Some may respond with "Baby don't hurt me" and others may respond with something along the lines of a thing that will never turn out the way they want it. Love could be simply crying over someone you didn't think meant anything to you or smiling when they walk into the room. It is known as the 3am talks and the "falling asleep in your arms". Love is something Jason Hicks never learned or thought was remotely important. But it was something he discovered after the near death of his love, Maje Versace. Before we get to that, we need to start 1 year, 3 months, 11 stitches, 12 roses, miles of terrible car singing and 2 boxes of chocolates ago. Which happens to land on August 30, 2015. The first day of school for the Lakebrooke school district. Thousands of kids woke up on this morning to put on their clothes and take pictures with mom and dad as the busses started to branch out to their houses. They ran down the stairs to find a nice breakfast and a new backpack. Jason Hicks woke up aside a loud annoying alarm clock flashing 5:56. He ran down the stairs sliding on his sneakers while grabbing his 2 year old backpack off the floor. He ran out the door. No pictures with mom or dad. No new backpack. No nice breakfast.
"O. M. G." Maje's dads said in unison. "Baby, you look so good today! Excited for freshman year?" She thought in her head no, not really but her mouth spoke differently. "Danny, take a picture of us, won't you?" Maje Versace was not your average teenage girl. She dressed very nicely and took pride in her appearance but never went out to go shopping with friends or spent countless dollars on a "skinny, non-fat, sugar free latte with extra foam." "Okay, HAVE FUN!" her dad shouted out of the window as she stepped into Logan's car. Logan Ritchie: Maje's best friend from 6th grade. He was very flamboyant and had a great sense of humor. He was a junior and already had his own car, a corolla. But he was still very kind at heart. "It's only gonna take us 9 minutes to get there so I'll make this fast. The pods only go up to J so don't listen to the seniors if they tell you your class is in the K-pod. Carry your bag with you, The lockers are too small. Don't get caught on your phone, you will regret it. I'll meet you at lunch for 5th period and finally, NO may I repeat NO Jason Hicks. Understood?" "I mean I guess but who is Jas-" "Good, I'm happy you understand"
