Speechless.
Breathless.
kessho was frozen.
her feet froze, refusing from moving from the position they were currently in. she was screaming at herself. why couldn't she move? why /didn't/ she move? Why did her feet disagree with her head? Maybe fear? The overwhelming sense of helplessness? Whatever it was, it was stopping her from being who she wanted to truly be. all she could do was watch as her best friend protected her from the mess she got herself into. Her and her big mouth. one minute, she was awaiting an impact. a deadly one. she was already at her limit so she couldn't afford to counter and the blast would of been too big to run. so, she braced herself for impact.
' what were you thinking?! you're not ready for this -- why didn't you think things through better . . . useless! '
once the blast never came, fear was the only thing forcing her eyes open. and that's when she saw the back of her best friend.
she didn't deserve to be a hero. or be at U.A. she couldn't even save her best friend. she stood idly by while the one person, who she counted on most in this world up until this point, was taken from her.
what kind of hero was she?! why couldn't she MOVE? had all of her training been for nothing? Had the confidence been an act? had everything she done been a facade?
swallowing the lump in her throat, red orbs never left the scene. breathing was rapid, trying to collect her thoughts. she wasn't meant to be a hero. she wasn't brave enough to be a hero. she wasn't /made/ to be a hero.
silver locks fell in her face as if trying to block her eyes from the horried scene.
she watched as the body dropped in front of her. the place looked like a murder scene. ash and smoke surrounded her, small flares of fire flickering at her bruised and ash covered skin. that's when she knocked herself from her thoughts, rushing beside the woman who had saved her. She lifted the girl into her arms, hands holding the open wound as if trying to stop the bleeding, or slow it down some. panicking, the girl quickly placed her head on the girls' chest, listening for a heartbeat.
. . .
She couldn't hear a single thing. no pulse, no heartbeat, no breath, no nothing!
she couldn't accept that. she couldn't! wide red orbs teared up, raising her head and looking at the girl in her arms. her body was cold. . . her chest wasn't moving, her face was completely lifeless. in denial, a delicate and shaky hand laid against the girl's cheek.
" hey . . . it's all over now, wake up - "
her voice was soft, low and full of disbelief. she had to force the words to leave her mouth. crimson orbs laid upon the lifeless body held in her arms, blood covering her own pale hands. she didn't know what to do, or how to do it. her throat began to grow sore, hands shaking. she didn't know if she was shaking from fear, grief or pure anger, but she couldn't control it. she wanted to scream until her lungs gave out. until her throat burned. until she couldn't breathe. Until her voice itself quit working. until she couldn't scream anymore.
" please - wake up. "
it was hard to choke those words out.
" please! i'm sorry! "
and again, and again, she begged. and she begged. and she begged.
" i'm sorry! i'm so sorry, please, please, please! wake up! open your eyes!
I'm begging you . . . open your eyes! "
but her call fell on deaf ears.
she clung to the girl, like life itself depended on it. she feared that if she let go, the woman in her arms would fade, like sand in her fingers.
she had no idea why she was begging because no one but herself heard them. They were to no avail. the tears never stopped. they fell onto the scratched up face of the girl in her arms. it felt like her own heart had stopped, like everything else around them was completely still. it's like time had frozen and the earth lost its ability to rotate. the sky had lost it's blue color for that instant. and for a moment, it felt like everything she had worked so hard for had completely cracked and crashed. like it was a mountain in an earthquake. slowly crumbling piece by piece and then crashing down all at once.
' damn it! useless piece of -- '
why . . .
after a few moments of begging and pleading, the girl stood up and propped one hand under the girls legs and the other behind her neck. weak and shaky arms lifted the woman into the air, tears still flowing down her reddened cheeks. shadows covered her eyes, chewing on her inner cheek. she began walking out of the place she was in, lifeless body in her arms.
small droplets began to fall from the sky.
split splat. right onto the ground.
of course. the weather always seemed to adjust to the situation. the ground slowly covered in water, killing the fire that surrounded them. hair and clothes began to soak, taking in a painful sharp breath. no one could save them now. the saying ' wait here, I've gone to get help! ' doesn't always work in a do - or - die situation. and someone's life was taken. snatched away from them. life wasn't fair. life /isn't/ fair. there's no way around it. people are taken, things happen that can't be avoided.
but this, this could've been avoided! if she would of just . . . just moved!
a crowd of people stared at them, completely in shock when witnessing the sight. a dead and cold body in the arms of a teenage girl, tears falling down her cheeks. her tears seemed to match the rain perfectly.
The world was so damn cruel. she knew this already but this is when reality started to set in. when things hit hard. When she realized . . .
" i was useless. I'm so sorry . . . "
