A small wolf shivered in the cold, only the twittering birds and the large, gently swaying pine trees for company. A small ray of moonlight found it's way through the dense pine needles and onto the black furred pup.

The midnight pup lifted it's head up towards the sky, it's tiny eyes closed, basking in the cool silver touch of the moon. It stuck out it's tongue, as if could taste the sweet, silver beam. Very slowly, suddenly, a dark gray cloud covered the large silver orb, destroying it's soft, beautiful light that had shown on the pup. It opened it's eyes, sensing that the light was gone.

It howled, a sweet, sad song. It cried out all of it's sadness, it's loneliness, and sent them to the sky. It wished for the moon to return, to cast it's cool, comforting light on it again, but the cloud did not move. The black pup let it's head fall back on it's tiny paws, and, closing it's eyes, it drifted off to sleep.

The pup was bouncing through the meadow, barking in delight as it felt the soft grass beneath it's feet. Finally, it stumbled upon a sunlit meadow, there was a large golden flower, its leaves and stem were a brilliant shade of green. The flower danced and swayed as the gentle wind pulled at it.

The small pup cautiously stepped through the grass towards the beautiful flower, feeling the silky grass beneath it's feet. The small pup looked up at the beautiful golden flower, eyes sparkling in its dazzlingly bright light. The pup slowly touched its nose to one of the golden petals, breathing in its sweet scent.

Suddenly, the flower blackened and shriveled , as if an invisible flame had scorched it. The once bright sun itself turned black, enveloping the woods in darkness. The pup scrambled back in fear, its heart thudding wildly. It stared at the dark, hunched over remains of the once shining flower.

The pup's ears perked at a sound, carried gently on the wind like a delicate leaf. "Torna," the voice whispered, the silky voice soothed the pup.

"Mother!" The pup howled into the wind, looking around wildly, the pup's eyes caught movement in the bushes bordering the clearing, it squinted, there it was again, the gentle swaying of bushes. "Mother!" The pup barked again, and raced towards it, but stopped in it's tracks. The bushes were pushed aside as another wolf emerged. Its pelt was black as night, yet it didn't seem natural, the fur seemed to suck all the remaining light around it. It's muzzle was torn with many battle scars, its eyes a blank white.

The strange wolf snarled, blood dripping from it's yellow fangs. It's large front paws thudding heavily on the hard ground as it slunk towards the pup. The pup howled with terror as it watched the large wolf stalk closer and closer, snarling. The pup tried to move, but it's paws were stuck in place. It could only watch in horror as the the monster wolf suddenly launched itself at the helpless pup!

The pup closed it's eyes, realizing this must be a dream, for it would be able to move in the waking world. It waited for the soft light of day and the gentle touch of the grass under her belly, but instead, was met with a sharp pain in her left shoulder.

The pup screeched in pain and ripped it's eyes open. The sickly wolf's fangs were lodged in her throbbing shoulder. The pup whipped its head around to try to bite the larger wolf's neck, but it's teeth chomped down on air as the adult wolf shifted its grip higher on the pup's shoulder.

Suddenly, the pup's terrified cries were cut off when the sickly wolf sunk it's teeth into the pup's neck. The white-eyed wolf shook the pup violently while the pup lashed out, trying to claw anything, eyes, nose, neck, but every attack was useless.

The pup grew weaker, it's struggles fading. The sickly wolf dropped the injured pup, blood bubbling from the wound in it's neck.

It's breath came out in shallow, jagged gasps. The pup's eyes slowly closed its eyes as it breathed out one final breath.
