We are living in a world ruled by democracy. We cannot imagine the world without free will, but what if an event in the past altered history so much, that the very concept of democracy is deleted out of existence? When we think of the opposite of democracy, the first thing that comes to us is tyranny. But then, however, we remember of the history lessons from school, and we remember about something called the Cold War. The Cold War was basically one of the greatest, if not the greatest conflict between ideologies. All the previous political systems adopted by humankind led to a Cold War, the ultimate conflict between two opposing ideologies that stood tall above the others that didn't make it. It was more of a psychological conflict, though. The people that lived during the Cold War fought because they thought that the other side was bad for humanity. People living in the US fought for freedom and rights, while people living in the Soviet Union fought for the ideal of a perfect Communism, for true equality, the equality described by Karl Marx and Friedrich Engels in the Communist Manifesto, which was, however, impossible to reach. However, both sides had something in common: they wanted utopia, and fought for it. That is most admirable.
As I was saying earlier, an event that happened in a different way can lead to a whole new outcome, or reality, as I defined it in this book. It is fascinating to contemplate alternate realities, and all the things that could have happened differently in history, don't you think? It is in the human's nature to think and find meaning to everything, but this is just an exercise of the brain. Or is it?
Think about all the things you have ever done in your life. What defines your existence? You might think that your existence is defined by your personality and your being, but it isn't really like that. Most people's personalities are forgotten after they die. Do you know how your great-great-grandfather was like? No, but you might know from your family that he was a good man. That is what defines the human's existence: how he affected others. The existence of a single being is irrelevant, but the changes made are relevant. How do you make the changes? Through choices. Every choice you made led you here, and any choice you could have made differently would lead you to a different place. That's the beauty of life. Everything you did led you here. Hopefully, there is a meaning to all of this. Perhaps something, up there in the greater dimensions of the Universe, actually planned our life to be relevant. I like to think that all we do has a meaning.
This book is about the small changes that affect history and all the possible realities. However, most of it is about their meaning. I hope you find meaning in your existence, too.
