Kris POV
I awoke to my alarm going off, and might I add, it was pretty loud. I looked for my phone and quickly shut it off. I sighed, rolling off of my mattress and making my bed. If my dad - if you can even call him that - saw my room anything but clean, he'd quickly make me regret it. I quietly walked downstairs and into the kitchen. I turned on the stove and started to prepare dinner. The 'beast', as I call him, wants steak, potatoes, and corn. So unfortunately, I have to make it for him, and enough for my sister. I rarely eat, but Megan always saves me some of her dinner, so I always have something to eat. Megan is the only family member that I love, and that loves me back. Sad yes, but true.
It hasn't always been this way. Before my mom died, Richard - the beast - was a nice guy. My biological father died when I was eight, from prostate cancer, and that was a little over seven years ago. When my mom and Rich got together, I was ten. My sister, Megan, was a year older than me, and as sisters, we got along pretty well.
Our mom died when I was twelve, in a car accident. I'm not going to go into detail, but it's my fault, and Rich will never let me live that down.
I grab two plates and silverware, and set the table. I arranged the food and placed spoons in the bowls. I place lids over the food so it stays warm. I then get started on desert. I rinse off the blueberries and start making the batter for the blueberry cobbler. I put the blueberries in first, and pour the batter over them, then placed it in the oven. I set the timer for about half an hour and went upstairs to get my sister.
I knocked on the door quietly. No answer, apparently I knocked too quietly, so I knocked a little louder.
"Yeah? Who's there?!" "Uh, it's Kri-" The door flew open, and an arm pulled me in. "Are you okay? Did dad touch you? Are you hurt?! OMIGOSH KRISTINA, ARE YOU OKAY? ANSWER ME! Oh my God, I'm sorry." I was holding my hands over my head, afraid of yelling and the punches that usually came with it. "I'm sorry Krissy, please don't be scared, I wouldn't hurt you, ever." I looked up at her and forced out an awkward smile. "Uh, I was here to um....Tell you that dinner is done....But thanks." She smiled and did a little dance. "Hallelujah, I'm starved and you make some amaaaaazing steak." She giggled and walked downstairs, with me behind her.
She knocked on - his - door, and we heard a groan. He must've been asleep. He'll be in a bad mood. He opened the door and smiles at Megan.
"Dinner is done dad, come on down." He nods, about to turn around, then he spots me. Crap. He smirks. " I see the pig was too scared to get me herself. Isn't that true, Megan?" She looks at me and smiles weakly as if to say sorry. "Yeah, she practically begged me to wake you up." He smiles and gestures for us to walk forward. But he takes me roughly by the arm and pulls me to him. "This better be good, or I'll remind you why you're so afraid." I gulped and nodded quickly. "Y-yes sir."
He lets me walk downstairs, and I stand on the other side of the room, like always. He says that I'm not important enough to eat with them, or near them. He looks at the food and grunts in approval. I let out the breath I didn't know I was holding, and brought out the blueberry cobbler when the timer rang out. He let out a low growl.
"Next time that better be done RIGHT before I come out." My eyes go wide as I set the pan down and nod. "Sorry sir, it won't happen again." "So many excuses, quit your stupid crap and get out so I don't have to see you while I eat!" I quickly walk upstairs, and walk into my room. I could feel the tears start to swell, and I crawled into bed.
'Why can't I just just have a normal family? I just want someone to love me...' But then I remembered I didn't deserve to have someone. I was trash. And who would want me anyways? I thought of this as my eyes got droopy, and I went to the only place I could be safe. Sleep.
