Honesty Is The Best Virtue

Alec ran a hand through his midnight black hair, feeling incredibly exhausted. Ever since Jace had made him head of the Institute, he'd been under extreme stress. The Shadow World was even more problematic than ever, and frankly, Alec was sick of it.

Valentine was nowhere to be seen, and the Soul Sword was missing.

Over the past few hours, he'd been through at least two stressful situations. First, his dad had the decency to try and make things right between them, but Alec didn't want anything to do with him.

He'd cheated on their mom, and worse of all, he'd fallen in love with another woman. Alec wouldn't forgive him that easily after all the pain he'd put their family through.

And then Clary had made a portal without a warlock's help and transported her and Jace to Idris, where he had to send Izzy to get them.

Clary had swallowed some of the Lake Lyn water, and therefore started having hallucinations. As a result, she'd broken Izzy's stele and tried to hurt her and Jace.

Alec sighed and leaned back in the black leather chair he'd been sitting on for six hours, his legs aching. Being head of the Institute wasn't any fun, and Alec wasn't sure how much of it he could take before he broke.

Suddenly, a soft knock sounded on the door. Alec looked up to see his beautiful boyfriend Magnus in the doorway. A lazy smile was plastered on his face, and it was enough to make Alec's heart skip a beat.

"Hello Alexander."

"I missed dinner didn't I?"

Magnus nodded. "Only by a few hours."

Alec stood up and walked over to Magnus, planting a quick kiss on his lips.

"I am so sorry, it's just that things have been so crazy here lately."

Magnus chuckled. "I understand. And, since we can't go to Cape Cod, we'll bring the Cape to us."

And with a simple snap of his fingers, a table appeared in the middle of Alec's office, and a plate of lobster with a side of corn was in the middle, complete with a vase of red roses and a single candle. Suddenly, Alec realized that he was holding a glass of sparkling champagne. Magnus raised his own glass, and they toasted. Alec had gotten used to the taste of alcohol, and didn't grimace when the bitter liquid ran down his throat.

Alec smiled at his boyfriend, wondering how he ever got so lucky. They took their seats at the table and Magnus fed him a piece of lobster, which was delicious and full of flavor.

"So, how are things going around here?"

Magnus asked as he helped himself to another piece of lobster.

"Um, pretty good. My dad came to visit."

"Ah, and how was Robert?"

"He tried to make things right with me, saying that he never meant to hurt me."

Magnus rolled his eyes. "Don't believe him Alexander. He's just trying to trick you."

Alec laughed. "I know. And not that I don't appreciate you coming here and bringing me dinner, but what's the occasion?"

"Oh Alexander. There's no occasion.
Since you're always cooped up in this stuffy Institute, I thought a nice dinner would be a good way to get rid of your stress. Anyway, the Seelie Queen was going on about how the Clave are nothing but a bunch of liars."  Earlier that day, Magnus had gone to the Seelie Court with Luke to discuss important matters concerning Valentine and the recent Downworld meeting at the Institute.

Alec chuckled softly. "Harsh."

As dinner went on, Alec could feel guilt rising up in the back of his throat. Even though his dad told him not to tell anyone, he couldn't keep this from Magnus. Not after he'd practically poured his heart out to him two days ago. Alec ignored the voice in his head that was telling him not to do it. He had to. It was the right thing to do, and Magnus could be trusted.

He'd helped him, Jace, Clary, Isabelle, Simon, and even Luke countless times. It was the least he could do, and besides, Magnus deserved to know.

"Um Magnus, can I tell you something?"

Magnus looked at him with his beautiful chocolate brown eyes and smiled.

"Of course Alec. You can tell me anything."

Alec grabbed Magnus's hand and laced their fingers together. He took a deep breath before telling Magnus everything.

About how Robert told him not to tell anyone, and how the Clave lied about having the Soul Sword. They have no idea where it is.

"I'm sorry if that was a little overwhelming and if it ruined this amazing dinner but I-"

He was cut off by Magnus placing a finger on his lips. "It's alright Alexander. You told me the truth, and you were honest with me. Thank you for telling me. I'm glad you trust me enough to divulge such a secret."

Alec smiled and squeezed Magnus's hand gently. "Of course. The guilt was eating me up inside and I knew I can't keep this from you. Not when you can help. And I don't care what my father says. I love you, and after everything you've done for me, Jace, Clary, everyone, you deserve to know. And you poured your heart out to me, you told me things you've never told anyone before. You confided in me Magnus.

I trust you wholeheartedly, and I hope you do too."

Magnus didn't say anything, just smiled and placed a soft kiss on his lips.

After they pulled away, Magnus decided to take Alec to Paris, specifically to the top of the Eiffel Tower.

And that perfect night ended with Alec standing on the top of the Eiffel Tower, overlooking the beautiful city of France, with an arm wrapped around Magnus's waist. Magnus rested his head on Alec's shoulder and closed his eyes, taking in the peaceful moment that wouldn't last forever, because the next day, Alec was going to go back to being head of the NY Institute.

But Magnus didn't care. All he cared about was the moment he was having now, with his beautiful boyfriend, in Paris, overlooking a spectacular view.

Magnus loved Alec with all his heart, and he wanted to stay with his precious, blue eyed, Shadowhunter boyfriend forever.

A/N: Thought I would make a Malec oneshot based on the dinner scene in
2x17. This is how it should've happened.

Minus the Paris thing, I added that in for fun.

My poor shipper heart is broken right now after 2x17.

I know this oneshot is crappy but I don't care cause it's Malec

But I know that Magnus and Alec love each other way too much.
